“When you go to Gallup Daily tracking poll for today it says, McCain 48%, Obama 45%, Where are the new numbers coming from?”

48-45 is registered voters.
54-44 is likely voters.

Rasmussen has been the most accurate and the most consistently fair in its treatment of republicans/conservatives. I like his methodology and his openness about it.

Today's Rasmussen rolling 3 day average says:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday, September 7, shows the race for the White House is tied.

In the first national polling results based entirely on interviews conducted after Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech, Barack Obama gets 46% of the vote and so does John McCain. When "leaners" are included, it’s all even at 48%.

FWIW, the most recent SurveyUSA question, "If you were to bet today on who will win, who would you bet on?" looks almost identical with Gallup's "likely voters" result.

Also, 48-45 is the 3-day tracking poll, which contains older data. Look for McCain to gain a few more points on that one.
