Hmmmm. The slime angle on that story has been over-worked a hundred times already, with a very measurable backlash. The only front-page expose’ they could really do on that story now would be an expose’ on how the smear originated from, and was orchestrated by, the Obama machine (I’ll stop dreaming now, I know they’d never give them up for it).

Now there's an intriguing thought. Makes sense, as even the Times cannot be that clueless. The backlash already caused by the media intrusion and vicious accusations have only hurt Obama and the MSM. I can't see them going back for seconds.

It could be that Drudge is simply yanking chains, knowing everyone will jump to conclusions about the nature of the story, when it's just a legitimate feature profile. Or, as you said, they'd give the story front page placement if they've uncovered direct ties between the smears and the Obama campaign. I hope you're right.
