COLORADO SPRINGS — In just the second day of campaigning together, Republican Presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin, gave a command performance of their convention week speeches to a crowd of more than 10,000 here.
McCain and Palin hit popular notes from their big-stage speeches by promising to rein in government spending, lead America to energy independence and win the war in Iraq.
"There's no place more appropriate than here in Colorado Springs, with all the great service of people from here, to tell you this: We are winning in Iraq," McCain said, drawing some of the biggest cheers of his 15-minute speech.

Timing is everything and McCain timed his announcement of a VP right before the labor day weekend and into the last 2 months of campaigning PERFECTLY! It’s all about momentum and boy did he ever grab it and run with it!

Yep! People came before daybreak and waited til 9:00 a.m to be let in. This is an event Colorado Springs hasn't seen in a long time. I feel pretty good McCain-Palin will carry my state in November!

Is it just the camera angle? When they are getting off the airplane the folks are quite a bit away behind the barricade. But the photo from the podium (and the first photo) seems to show the folks much closer to the plane.
I can’t imagine that they would have moved the barricades back to accomodate more people - but maybe so. I wonder if the audience was supposed to be just in the shade of the hangar on a warm fall day and folks on the tarmac is “overflow”?
