I have no problem with using natural gas for transportation, but the government should not subsidize it. Haven’t we learned our lesson with ethanol? If you subsidize the use of natural gas in automobiles, that does not reduce the cost. It increases it. You will pay higher taxes, and the increased demand for natural gas will push up the price, hurting people who use natural gas for things in which it is an efficient use, like heating your home, cooking, and heating your water.
Figured there would be a catch.
For several years I flew out of Phoenix’s Sky Harbor each week. As I lived 44 miles out in the desert I used Super Shuttle to bet back and forth. Super Shuttle had a fleet of Dodge vans for these shared rides. By city mandate the company was forced to faze in CNG as the fuel. Originally the gasoline engines were converted to CNG but could switch to gasoline in case of running out of CNG (very poor MPG). As new vans were added to the fleet they were totally CNG. Several times I was stranded due to fuel pump diaphragm failure on the dual fuel engines. I have almost missed my flight because of the LONG refuel times for CNG. CNG is a better fuel than ethanol.
