The tape as disseminated is what makes no sense. The conversation was not a 10 second snip out (as found on the internet) of a conversation that went on several minutes.
IMO, this was an intended hit-piece on Palin while trying to take out Noonan at the same time.
I’m sad to see it working.
Noonan hasn't been relevant in a long time. Who would want to 'take her out'?
Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys -- this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it's not gonna work. And --
I take that comment to mean that one of these people is who John McCain should have picked but he didn't so he is going to lose because of it. Do you agree? Peggy followed that comment with:
PN: It's over.
Now, how does her "it's over" comment at that point in the conversation convert to what she's now claiming she meant, which is:
I got on the subject of the leaders of the Republican party assuming, now, that whatever the base of the Republican party thinks is what America thinks. I made the case that this is no longer true, that party leaders seem to me stuck in the assumptions of 1988 and 1994, the assumptions that reigned when they were young and coming up.
How do you go from what Mike Murray said to "it's over" and have it mean what she's saying here? I don't get it.
