Because of the leverage we had, we where able to stop Amnesty with a President and Senate who supported Amnesty. If we realize the solution isn't in Washington (that is just a tool) but the power is with our collective voices. We've already shown, several times with President Bush, what we can do if we have the will to do it. No matter McCain's, nor Congress' personal opinion on the issue, they are concerned with retaining power. This means money and votes. Threaten those (especially the first) and you have leverage.

We won't have that leverage with Obama.

..BUT, we also have to realize that 99.9% of the responsibility lies with ourselves. If illegals didn't have jobs to come to, they would have no reason to come. IMHO, we aren't even touching 1% of the power over the issue that we, as citizens have. Don't make it financially viable for people to come here illegally.

This is true. My fear is that we cannot keep fighting an uphill battle and we will lose eventually. But you're right on one point - if Obama gets in with many Dems in congress, what the Republicans do won't count at all. They'll be outvoted. Long-term - the chance of electing a conservative in '12 goes down if McAmnesty gets in and out liberals the liberals.

I don't. We are doing our own yard and own tile work because we cannot find a legal citizen that will do that work. Wages have been so depressed for those jobs that Americans cannot afford to do them. It IS those that employ the illegals' fault, but it is also the liberal political climate that encourages it. Every time I get a call from the police, sheriff, etc asking for money, I tell them I will support them again when they enforce existing illegal immigration laws. Since that isn't being done, the average citizen cannot do a thing to stop this invasion. We cannot even call ICE - they don't care either.
