Maybe ‘Red’ needs to spend some quality time at my local VA, talking with some of my veteran friends who’ve been where they’ve been, and gone through the horrors that many Vietnam veterans still can’t talk about.

If I hadn’t listened to the stories that some veterans have shared with me, maybe I would be as tired of hearing the “POW story line” as ‘Red’ seems to be.

But I have listened. And I am honored that these men would find me worthy of sharing. So any time John McCain, or any Veteran, wants to share his or her experiences with me, I’d be honored to listen.

"Maybe "Red" needs to spend some quality time at my local VA, talking with some of my veteran friends who've been where they've been, and gone through the horrors that many Vietnam veterans still can't talk about."

I've lived with and among vets all my life(family, live near Fort Campbell) so I have heard of the battles, the horror stories. Overhearding my father, uncles, cousins talk among themselves when the believe nobody else is listening. Learning not to make loud noises or make sudden, unexpected movements when sleeping over at friends houses or having them sleep over with us as their fathers readjust to life in the "real world". The night sweats, the drinking until they collapse but afraid to move them because they will"react"., The sudden mood swings, the agruements over peddling things. then the divorces because Daddy isn't well. Having friends join the army leave for overseas duty and then come back "changed"

It isn't that "I am tired" of the POW narrative but it isn't the only thing McCain is about.

Nobody but the far Left nutters dare question about the horrors he has gone through and survived with honor. Yes he should tell his incredile story during his imprisoment as no other can. However as important that period of time was in forming the character of the man who (hopefully)could be the next president. His life did not end there. The convention needed to tell the WHOLE story of McCain's life in politics and what he intends to doing the future.

Nobody doubted Sen Robert Dole's heroism but it wasn't enough to bring over the undecided Independants and blue collar democrats.

McCain tried to stuff everything he is about in one long speech. And it bogged down at times and took away from his narrative. Much of the fine details he stands for could and should have been handled by others and while letting McCain paint with broad strokes., a la Reagan.

However that is water under the bridge and I hope we both can agreed that the McCain/Palin ticket can go on the campaign trail and do well in the upcoming debates.
