Developers in Dubai have claimed a new record for the tallest building in the world, saying that the Burj Dubai skyscraper has now topped 688 metres (2,257 ft).
The slender, rocket-shaped tower is still under construction. Its final height remains a closely guarded secret, although it is expected to reach 800m.
Emaar Properties announced last summer that the skyscraper had surpassed Taiwans Taipei 101, which - at 508 metres (1,667 ft) - had been officially the world's tallest building since 2004.

That’s swell. Now when would those Arabs increase production of oil so I don’t have to pay an arm and leg for gas?
To: Perdogg
There’s a point where I’m more scared than impressed by this sort of thing.

I think they are in the process of building another one that is even taller.

Taipei 101 has two observation decks, one indoors and one outdoors on top. Both views are magnificent.

For Taipei 101, I think having a skyscraper in earthquake zone could be a challenge.

I'm sure the views are great....I've worked in skyscrapers for the last 16 years or so and had some great views of Puget Sound.
A building being too tall for me is like porn: I can't define it but I know it when I see it.

Thats swell. Now when would those Arabs increase production of oil so I dont have to pay an arm and leg for gas? As long as the dollar keeps getting stronger, they should increase production.
FWIW, I think Dubai gets most of its money from commerce, not oil.
