This event is a weird dichotomy. Serious political speeches like Gore’s dont really work in this venue. It’s like someone wearing a tuxedo to a fraternity party.
A sports stadium is designed for entertainment, not for someone delivering boring stump speeches.
Even when the crowd cheers, it’s diffused. Not at all like the powerful and crazy cheering and yelling you get in a convention hall. The delegates are trained to go way overboard in the convention hall. These people look bored to tears.
Also the fact that the people have been out in the sun for hours waiting to get in and they’re all going to fade as the evening wears on doesn’t play into having a lot of excitement.
