That's exactly the point.
However, Bush should be defending himself. For eight years, he has shown no willingness to do so.
A couple of months after Katrina, a liberal co-worker in our very liberal town started talking about "how Bush let those people drown", etc, etc.
I responded by simply talking about the New Orleans geography (below sea level), about the levee ratings (Category 3), about the predicted Katrina strength (predicted as Category 5 and struck as Category 4) about storm surge (I grew up in Florida), about the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 that wiped out Islamorada, Florida, about the great loss of life due to failure to evacuate (no early warning in the 1930's), about how Florida Governors now ensure evacuation of the Florida Keys when a hurricane threatens them, about the Democrat Mayor and Governor, about their published Evacuation Plan, about the unused buses and about their failure to evacuate the income New Orleans residents without their own transportation as the Evacuation Plan called for.
Two days later, that liberal came up to me, said she had researched the matter on the Internet and had seen that what I explained was true. She was shocked at the gross negligence of the Democrat Mayor and Governor and said that their conduct was inexcusable. She then thanked me for the information.
It was that simple to refute the "Bush allowed people to drown" Big Lie.
However, Bush never even tried to refute the Big Lie.
It should not be solely your job or my job to have to defend George W. Bush. That should be his job. He has the Bully Pulpit. You and I don't.
You know you always show up to rag on GW, guess what he is not running in 08! That may be a news flash for you, but the rest of us have already moved on. Try it.
