You are right about the non block. IMHO the WTF fighting style has caused a lack of emphasis in blocking skills.
BTW, I’m proudly (yet humbly) a WTF Yi Dan. Any one else out there belted?
Human reaction time is enhanced by alertness to attack ... the ref had no reason to be on alert since competitors are ‘forbidden’ to touch the refs.
