If this is a trial balloon, it's an elaborate one, which could be yet another in a series. The difference is that ABC picked up the Secret Service story hours ago, and it would make sense that the Obama campaign would leak this quite literally in the dead of night.

I thought this was a joke or a trial balloon as well (since the text messages didn't go out yet), but Major Garrett of Fox News, who is traveling with the Obama campaign, confirmed that it's Biden as well.

The text ruse was a ploy to keep agitated amnesiacs who spend six or more hours a day on their Blackberry in suspense.

This was not an unintended leak. It was released into the mainstream media graveyard, as far as timing goes, and there is still plenty of time between now and Monday to make Biden into something greater than he is.
