A Schleicher County grand jury today handed down three new felony indictments in the state's polygamist sect investigation, a court clerk said.
Schleicher County District Clerk Peggy Williams said the indictments involve three individuals. It's unclear whether those individuals are new defendants or suspects already charged in the probe.
The identities of those individuals were not immediately available. Neither were the actual charges listed in the indictments.
The grand jury last month indicted six members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Court hearings for those individuals is scheduled for Sept. 8, authorities said.
The grand jury plans to reconvene on Sept. 23, Williams said.
Sect spokesman Willie Jessop was one of six witnesses subpoenaed today. When asked about his testimony, Jessop told reporters: "We certainly believe there is a God. We believe he will judge all. Those who judge will be judged themselves."
In related action today, a case involving Lloyd Barlow, a physician at the sect's YFZ compound near Eldorado, was transferred to the Schleicher County court system. He is facing three charges of failing to report child abuse, a misdemeanor. He was among the six members of FLDS indicted last month.
So, the total is five, or is it six?
Is the bishop’s list a list by the bishop of all activities, or is it a list of all the bishop’s activities?
“The outrages that were beyond all description were their beliefs. “
What beliefs did they have that were so outrageous?
6, including Jeffs.
I don't know. It was probably their belief that the LDS religion was the only true church on the face of the earth and that all the other churches were Satan's spawn : )
Most likely though it was the Mormons anti slavery position and the fact that they were rapidly becoming a major political power due to their growing numbers.
Well, while probably and likely are reasonable for proof when no other proof exists, there was written proof in the quoted information on the Missouri incident.
“I have received by Amos Reese, Esq., of Ray county, and Wiley C. Williams, Esq., one of my aids, information of the most appalling character, which entirely changes the face of things, and places the Mormons in the attitude of an open and avowed defiance of the laws,”
What in the heck are you talking about? Did you forget your meds this morning?
“It was probably their belief that the LDS religion was the only true church on the face of the earth and that all the other churches were Satan’s spawn”
Where did you get that concept?
I thought non-Mormons were just considered uncivil heathens.
No. I don’t do meds.
But, I’m still waking up, and I referred to the wrong thing.
I should have referred to your previous posts, not the last two paragraphs.
But, is that the picture you have in your head?
No. It was just a law passed against people lumping them together because of their beliefs.
That too : ) I think it is a generally accepted principle to unite your own group by demonizing opponents.
“It was just a law passed against people lumping them together because of their beliefs.”
And their beliefs were that they didn’t have to obey the laws.
“I think it is a generally accepted principle to unite your own group by demonizing opponents.”
I know. And we are going to be hit in the face with it for several days as the DNC Convention in Denver gets going full steam.
Nah, they believe in honoring, obeying, and sustaining the law. They are really boring that way.
Speaking of demonizing your opponents, the FLDS doesn’t have the same beliefs as the LDS, from what I can tell.
According to what I have been able to find, the FLDS think non-Mormons are heathens, and blacks are the true spawn of Satan.
The FLDS doctrines practiced by these people that lived at the YFZ Ranch, just seem so.....wholesome and theologically rewarding.
And sound just like the behavior by our Congress.
I think you are slandering the FLDS by comparing them to our Congress : )
