What was that old saying about Nato? That it was designed to:
1. Keep the Americans in (Europe),
2. The Russians out, and
3. The Germans down.
I fail to see how the calculation has changed much especially with a resurgent Russia.
This "calculation" was made by the Europeans and was not to benefit the U.S.
Benefiting the U.S. should be the primary reason for any foreign policy.
