For the life of me, I just don’t understand why people make a big deal out of who speaks at the convention.

Just another thing to hold against McCain, I suppose. Rudy is one of the top speakers the GOP has and has huge star power. Seems like the most logical choice. If he were the VP pick, I could understand people being spun up. But keynote speaker is the perfect role for Rudy.

Well said. And let's not forget that McCain is trying to highlight the gaping chasm between him and The One in experience in dealing with national security matters. Think that might have factored into this decision just a wee bit? :)

We still live in a dangerous world, and Rudy is one able to really articulate this. Also, this is interesting:

“It looks like the designated attacker on the issue of Obama’s foreign policy adviser going to Syria will be none other than Rudy Giuliani.

“As we reported below, the McCain campaign has been planning to make an issue out of a new report in the New York Sun saying that the adviser, Daniel Kurtzer, provided advice to the Syrian government last month. Now comes this release from the McCain campaign:

“Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign will hold a press conference call with former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani and Randy Scheunemann, McCain 2008 Senior Foreign Policy Adviser to discuss reports that an Obama campaign Middle East adviser was recently in Damascus for meetings with Syrian officials.”
