That isn't really true. I've seen this (not this particular incident, but something along this pattern) coming for about two years now, and I'm sure others have because we've been talking about it (where "we" includes US military officers, business people with Georgian and Russian contacts, and a number of ordinary citizens just trying to keep themselves well-informed).
While US intelligence gets a bad reputation, it isn't THAT incompetent. The writing on the wall that something like this was going to happen has been obvious for several years.

It is unfortunate that you feel that way. Russian propaganda is pretty good (and unfortunately includes some willing collaborators in the US media), but it shouldn't be that good. Intelligent people should be able to discern the truth from the available information. I beg you to try harder, because if US citizens can't tell the difference between good and evil our civilization is doomed.

If you think about that statement for a bit, you'll realize that it can't possibly be true.
