Do you like the Gang of 10, and do you think McCain approved of it?

I agree the timing...90 days prior to an election...was ill-conceived.

But objectively...it was merely a written proposal ...not a bill...containing virtually everything everybody was looking for. It's a good basis for the Congress to use when they try to address this issue next year after the inauguration...of hopefully John McCain.

...credit goes to MACVSOG68 whose opinion and intellect have influenced my position. Thanks MAC!

I guess you didn't read the written proposal. I has everything the democrats want and virtually none of what conservatives want and know the country needs. The 5 republicans who joined the gang of 10 have show poor judgement and should be voted out of office. They feel they are safe because they are not up for re-election at this time. They are not safe and this proposal is a POS.

“It’s a good basis for the Congress to use when they try to address this issue next year after the inauguration...of hopefully John McCain.”

The problem is, the Gang of 10 is trying to advance this mushy compromise now. And it hands Obama just what he might have wanted, without even knowing it. He has already given it his approval.

And, from the details I’ve heard, it does next to nothing: opens more sites for drilling off the four Gulf states where we’ve been drilling for 30 years, plus maybe Virginia.

Drilling needs to remain the number one campaign issue until election day if you want McCain to have his best chance. And he needs to flip-flop some more on drilling, including ANWR and drilling w/o state agreement, unless the state funds and furnishes its own Coast Guard and Navy.
