I do know that historically they have been our allies in WWI. In fact, their little country is the reason for WWI. However, during WWII they became a Nazi puppet state so there were partisans but there were also a lot of Serbians on the Nazis side. However, all of this history is not relevant.
What is relevant is if they have recently been an ally of ours. They were communists up until 1992 and since then as an independent nation they have been allied closely with Russia, not the U.S. So the answer is no they have not been our ally recently which was the point I was making.
Hi, and thanks for the nice reply.
I would like to say that little Serbia was not the reason for WWI, but rather Austro-Hungarian imperialism and bullying. As for WWII, there were very few Serbians on the nazi side. They had a civil war between the royalist Chetniks and the communist partisans, but both factions hated the nazis. Yes, there was some collaboration with the occupiers, on both sides (chetnik and partisan - don’t let anyone tell you otherwise), but this is to be expected in a country occupied by nazi monsters. Before anyone condemns a nation for collaboration, remember that the British channel islands were occupied by the Germans in WWII, and there was no resistance against the nazis by our British friends there - none.
Anyway, hope you have a good day.
