Some of the Oklahoma Reps. are there, also. Others are “scheduled” for later. I think that is a wonderful idea! If they are going to stay for the whole month they are going to need to spell each other.

Whoa, that little Putnam guy from Florida is SHARP!
I LOVED his comment about our children someday being able to look at a map of the world and say, “Now that is an interesting part of the world, but it is totally IRRELEVANT to the economic wellbeing of the United States!” Wonderful impromptu speech!

Like what? Solar and wind power that have been around since the 80's with no advances?Try to be a little more forward thinking than that. There are technologies such as coal-gasification that can be flushed out so that it is clean burning and less expensive to produce. Also, some interesting work being done to convert and burn garbage into a renewable energy source, however, the methane by-product, at present, remains an issue. In addition, there has been some work done exploring the use of salt water as an energy source, but we still need further research and development to determine how viable it might be.
And, there could be other energy sources that we have yet to discover or develop. The Enterprise (on Star Trek) got around on dilithium crystals - maybe someone will develop that into an alternative source of energy in OUR lifetime. We have to discover it eventually or else Scotty, Bones, Uhuru, Mr. Chekov, Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock are going to end up as day laborers at a Home Depot in a galaxy near you!! :-)

Oh please. There is no current technology at that moment that will replace oil. My Audi can't run on dilithium crystals. For the next 20 to 30 years, oil will be king. OIL is NOT a dirty word. Alternatives are in an infancy stage with none looking more than "promising".
WHY do you believe oil is terrible? You decry "enviroweenies" then parrot their drek. There may be new technology down the pike but we aren't there yet. Not even close.

Btw, you'll notice that Dems are pushing wind and solar and not anything else. Only serious people are looking 100 years down the road and searching for viable energy methods.
I don't believe this is even about real energy. It's about control. Control a nations food, fuel and the citizenrys movements and you CONTROL.

******Asked for comment, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said, “Let me be very clear: we support what the House Republicans are doing. They are doing the right thing by shining a light on this issue. There should be no mistake about that. Unfortunately, simply calling Congress into session isn't going to guarantee that Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi [D-Calif.] will give a vote on the bill.******
Fretto and the President are wrong.
We want the Congress to vote. If they vote for drilling, good. If they vote against drilling, then those anti-Americans who run for re-election soon will have to look for another job.
Most voters are not party advocates but independent-minded people who vote what is best for America and also what is best for the voter. Over 75% of the electorate want drilling, NOW. I wish I were a politician and I elected to do what 75% wanted-—nice result for me.

What do you think? Isn’t the oil useless unless it’s drilled? What good is a mineral unless it’s tapped? Wouldn’t it end up being useless if viable alternative fuels were discovered? So, what do you think?

Up here in Northern NYS, I'm also concerned with kerosene costs which will reach approx. $4.89 a gallon. That's more than a one dollar increase per gallon since last winter.
Just figure what it will cost for 1000 gallons of kerosene. BTW, if your tank is outdoors, you must use kerosene to keep it from getting cold and sluggish as would do fuel oil.

There is no current technology at that moment that will replace oil.I never said there was. That's why I refer to them as "emerging technologies".
WHY do you believe oil is terrible? You decry "enviroweenies" then parrot their drek. There may be new technology down the pike but we aren't there yet. Not even close.
Oh, please!!! Pretend you're not stupid for a moment and you actually understood what I wrote. I NEVER said that oil was a dirty word, anymore than Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity, or Neal Boortz. What I said was that this latest oil price increase has been a huge wakeup call for us and that we need to look for renewal energy alternatives in the long-term that will wean us off oil. In the near term, we need oil to fuel the economy we have that is BASED on oil while we develop, refine and explore new, clean burning energy alternatives. Unless you're a moron and want your childtren or your children's children to be held hostage by the same set of desert dwelling ragheads and despots who are holding US hostage today, we need some breathing room and incentives to look for other energy sources.
The whole dilithium crystal thing was a joke!! If you are so "wrapped around the axle" trying to catch trolls on this site that you don't recognize sarcasm when you read it, perhaps you need to relax with a stiff drink and loosen up before you log on to FR.

Well this conversation is definitely over. I don't converse with those who have no self control and resort to insults.
