Maybe it would help if you spelled it out: WATERgate, the same hotel Monica Lewinski was staying at during her scandal. If the person doesn’t get it, it means they’re too young to remember. It’s like saying “where were you when Kennedy was shot?” and they say, “Ted Kennedy was shot?”
