It’s a matter of projection. Who did you project in your mind to be President in 2009 while thinking about it in 2004? Do you honestly believe in 2008 you can project 2013?
It’s McCain or Obama right now (unless Hillary takes him out). Reality is a pill we all take.

See, that’s the problem. It depends on your definition of liberal. According to at least a plurality of self-described conservatives Romney was the most appealing to conservatives in the GOP primary. So your statement just doesn’t cut it. There’s something else.

Examine the record and accomplishments of Mitt Romney while Governor of Massachusetts and you will find that he applied and practiced core conservative principles of fiscal and social conservatism in one of the most liberal states of the U.S. It required courage to take the conservative positions and actions he did in the face of a hostile political environment.
