“It would change everything in regards to earth, and our species.”

And be a great lead in by world governments to the fact that UFO’s exist, we are not “alone” and then use that as a pretext to push for increased planetary government control.

It would change everything in regards to earth, and our species.

How?

Finding microbes on another world for most scientists would merely confirm the materialist paradigm (which states that given the right chemicals and environmental conditions, life will arise), subscribed to by 98% of the scientific community. How does that "change" anything? They'll continue to believe what they believe and the creationist crowd will continue to believe what they believe.

I think it’s one of those “if I have to explain it, you wouldn’t understand” things.

Why do I get the feeling that they are getting us ready to announce something major...???

They are going to announce that they found water and sand.

Or maybe it’s one of those “I don’t really understand it myself” kind of things....

You're joking?

How long has mankind asked and wondered if we're all alone?

Discovering and confirmation of life existing outside this planet would be the biggest story ever, and would change the way man thinks of himself, our planet, and the universe we live in.

Yes, many of us already believe the chances for life exiting outside this planet are great. However, many don't. There has never been proof or hard evidence.

It would confirm and prove what has been speculated about for many centuries. Is life unique and isolated to earth? Are we all alone?

Finding microbes on another world for most scientists would merely confirm the materialist paradigm

Not everyone on this planet is a scientist my friend, nor does everyone think like a scientist does.

Scientist rely on research, proof and evidence, spending their entire lives attempting to discover things like the cure for cancer and the discovery of life outside earth.

In addition, if life in the form of microbes exists, then it's extremely likely, in my opinion, that thousands of other forms of life exist all over this universe.

Right now, at this moment in regards to life outside earth, we have no idea what lies across the stellar ocean, or if in fact life even exists.

No, I'm not joking at all.

The quest for life elsewhere has only recently become a scientific issue -- for years, the very idea was laughed at as "science fiction." However, as Darwinism and scientific materialism came to be widely accepted, resistance to the idea of life elsewhere declined precipitously. In a startling reversal of fortune, it now seems that to question the idea of extraterrestrial life is to commit an unspeakable heresy, as witness the insulting remark of Psycho_Bunny above in post 63 above.

My point was that as a scientific issue, the discovery of extraterrestrial life is no longer a paradigm-changing event -- it is widely expected. The really big advances in science usually come from discovery of the UNexpected.

Your original comment was that this discovery would "change everything." My point was that in fact, it would change nothing -- everyone would continue to believe what they do now. I stand by that assessment.

With the discovery and hard evidence of life outside earth, only the ignorant would continue to believe, What they do now". As that is only a "belief".

Without evidence, even those that believe life exists across the stellar ocean, like myself, will *always* have the question in the back of their minds...Or are we really unique, and all alone?

Believing something, and having hard evidence, are two completely different things.

As witness: the current hysteria over alleged human-caused global warming.

I do not question your beliefs, but I know many of the "alien life everywhere"-mindset and they don't need "hard evidence." As in the X-Files, "they want to believe."

And many of them are scientists.

I have no opinion on television shows or what drives the opinions or beliefs of others. For that matter, I have never watched an episode of that program. lol..

Stop being a jerk. You included me in a response that had nothing to do with what I initially said: neither factually nor contextually. I was talking merely about my own personal opinion...my statement had nothing to do with what ever you think I said in your little argumentative fantasy.

My response to you was merely a statement of fact, not a deliberate insult: I don't feel like explaining my feelings to you.

Now you're using me in some bizarre argument that has absolutely nothing to do with me, nor anything I've said.

Go find someone else to Straw Man.

I must point out, you could not be more incorrect...Again. To prove that just post a thread regarding anything like that on this forum, and it'll be mocked, laughed at, made fun of, complete with comical images etc etc. We've all seen that type of thing over and over and over. So much so all the jokes have become boring.
