faith
1. Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
Do you drive and have ‘faith’ that the oncoming traffic won’t veer off in your lane and hit you head on? Do you get into an airplane with ‘faith’ that it will fly to your destination?

The Jewish Sanhedrin put out a circular letter saying that they executed Jesus for blasphemy

Then you shouldn't have a problem posting a source.

If you want to argue scripture with the St. Rose Baptist VBS Bible sword contest champion, go ahead.

A Vacation Bible School Bible sword contest champion… At what age did you receive this honor?

The FR Religion Mod already declared Science was not religion.
I'm sure her declaration will be posted as soon as someone finds it again.

Maybe I'm tired, but even by post 181...I don't find it.
(I could have missed it).

I'll be back in hopes this declaration is posted, just to see
how this was decided.

I won’t have a problem, but you will likely have a problem with the historicity of anything we post in that vein.

So why should I bother? If you want the truth about the historicity of Jesus, then you post a historicity thread and I’ll go fetch. Otherwise, it’s just the same old thing with your typical piss & vinegar routine and riling up religious conservatives.

In the meantime, for the lurkers who really do want to know what kind of historical evidence exists, here’s a place to start, an entire scholarly work transcribed here on Free Republic.
THE NEW TESTAMENT DOCUMENTS Are they Reliable? (Preface, Chapt. 1)

Where was the last place you visited based on stats?

I have an idea of what your response would be, so for the benefit of lurkers:

“A godless and lawless heresy had sprung up from one Jesus a Galilean deceiver, whom we crucified; but his disciples stole him by night from the tomb, where he was laid when unfastened from the cross, and now deceive men by asserting that he has risen from the dead and ascended to heaven.”
- A circular letter issued by the Sanhedrin (mentioned by Justin Martyr (2nd C) and Eusebius)

Quintus Septimius Florens Tertullianus, a Carthaginian theologian and writer (c. 155 - c. 200 C.E.) repeats the accusation.

“’This is He,’ I will say, ‘the son of the carpenter and the harlot, the sabbath-breaker, the Samaritan who had a devil. This is He whom you purchased from Judas, this is He who was struck with reed and fist, defiled with spittle, given gall and vinegar to drink. This is He whom the disciples secretly stole away to spread the story of His resurrection, or whom the gardener removed lest his lettuces be trampled by the throng of curious idlers.’”
- Tertullian, De Spectaculis, 30:6 (197 C.E.)

I am a scientist (physical chemist, now retired) -- and -- I am a Christian and believer in Divine creation and design of the universe, and all that it contains. I apologize for neither. I am superbly comfortable and secure with both my science and my religion.

Thank you oh so very much for sharing your testimony, dear brother in Christ!

Of a truth, the words of God are spirit and they are life.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life. - John 6:63

The words of men are neither spirit nor life.

The Scriptures, the words of God, are not in the same category with the words of science, math, history, etc.

Man is not the measure of God.

To God be the glory!

Indeed, either way one believes something.

[ I am incapable of faith. ]

It takes faith to believe going from point "A" to point "B" back to point "A", that you may get back alive.. else you would send someone else..

Hey, like the fact that you came up with those citations.

However, and this is not directed at you,

I AM OUTRAGED WHEN I SEE “C.E.” OR “B.C.E.” -

post-modern attempts to remove CHRIST as the delineator of history.

BC - before CHRIST
AD - anno DOMINE, “year of OUR LORD”

These bastards think that they’ll just start using this “Common Era” BULLSH... ER...
and that eventually, no one will notice.

Another misdirection.

No one is “incapable of faith”.

Many choose to refuse to accept God and Christ because of something they know they’ll have to change in life that is, for some reason, more important to them.

I’ve heard some with as lame an excuse as “porn addiction”.
Yeah, that’s SOOOOOO important.

"Man is not the measure of God."

Dear Sister,

No telling how many times you have posted that truth, and I merely read it as a good "truism". Only now has the Spirit pointed out to me how deeply and profoundly true it is!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I may be old and slow, but, eventually, I usually do manage to "get it"! <LOL!!!>
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now that I ponder it, that basic principle encapsulates the root cause of most of the disagreements that believers express about creation -- including the age of the universe - and, yes, the vehement feelings expressed re "evolution".

For example:

"Man is not the measure of God."

Yes, indeed!

Thank you, Dear Sister, for sharing that wonderful and useful insight! May I borrow it -- even as a tagline -- on occasion?

I am me. I belong to no group. I may be autistic. I have a very high IQ (my mother stated 170, tested at 141 as adult). I read at a second semester 12th grade level in first grade (ARE).

I am incapable of faith.

The IQ numbers have no meaning without a standard deviation.

As anyone who studied basic statistics would understand that.

I sure you have faith in yourself.

Here is a less modern variant .
