I’d be his girlfriend for $15,000 a month.
Rielle Hunter, wannabe actress/producer (aspiring double threat!), was paid $114,461 by Edwards One America Committee to produce a series of webisodes introducing people to the casual, authentic John Edwards. Why they picked this lady to make these videos is unclear she really didnt have much experience doing anything beyond being, in the words of Jay McInerney, an ostensibly jaded, cocaine-addled, sexually voracious 20-year old. That was a couple years ago, though. Now shes a 44-year-old former all of those things, and a weirdo new agey spiritualist flake, according to her website.

Your definition of “investigative reporting” is far too narrow.
Keeping a man from high office in the future in this case at least Attorney General is certainly a public service in the least.
Preventing him from running for the Oval Office ever again even greater.
Actually I think $15k a month is a little on the low side, given his assets. However, it does lend credence to the suspicion that the money is coming from a man of means who would rather not go public about it.
As for Elizabeth, she has to know but I don’t think $15k a month would be hard for her to lose track of. Unlikely she keeps the books herself.
Not necessarily. If it came from him having her on the campaign payroll as "consultant", the wife would not have seen it. But if he paid her from out of campaign or other non-personal funds, he might have problems from people beyond just his wife (then again, maybe not. Dem politicians don't generally get prosecuted for things like regular people do)
The Edwards' are worth 30 million dollars. Source
Therefore, $15K / month is a drop in the bucket. I doubt she noticed, especially if he handles the finances.
“Preventing him from running for the Oval Office ever again even greater.”
Having an affair didn’t stop some other folks from running for office — McCain and Guiliani come to mind.
“Exactly why do we care if he has a mistress?”
1) Because he talked down to people like you and me, acting as though he had the moral high ground over us.
2) He was on the shortlist for VP.
3) It exposes his character should he chose to run for office again or seek appointment to a government position such as US Attorney General.
How’s that for reason?
But as other pointed out....eeewwww....John Edwards.
I'd rather be shot at. And swelter in the heat. And deal with these dang sandstorms. And make less money... ;-)
years ago, we had a horse that looked like that
Keep in mind Monica Lewinsky was not a supermodel either.
It might be that a woman who is discreet and willing to do whatever the guy wants, whenever the guy wants, and is actually pleasant company, is more in demand than extreme beauty
Doubtful. You can imagine Obama asking Edwards, when he dropped out of the race: "C'mon, you're not quitting because me and the witch are historic."
Obama knew about this long ago.
Not really since if Edwards is worth 70 or 80 million, that's a drop and could very easily be disguised among thousands of investments...
He drilled his way in......
I don’t criticize another person looks. However,if you going down on the sly and have big bucks, she better be hot!
“3) It exposes his character should he chose to run for office again or seek appointment to a government position such as US Attorney General.”
You think so? Two words. Bill Clinton.
You're sucha ho, Mike.
Ah, that’s different. Who is his friend?
And if he treats his wife this way, how do his friends fare?
And because the media blackout offers outstanding evidence of their bias. The smear about McCain and the lobbyist was on the front page of the NY Times. This story can’t even break into Wikipedia.
