Joel Brinkley: Right on Falk, Wrong on Academia

by Cinnamon Stillwell
Thu, 18 Dec 2008 at 6:07 PM

Stanford University journalism professor and former New York Times foreign policy correspondent Joel Brinkley has written a commendable article in the San Francisco Chronicle questioning Princeton University professor emeritus of international law Richard Falk’s role as special representative of the U.N. Human Rights Council. Falk is charged with investigating alleged Israeli human rights abuses against the Palestinians or, in other words, drumming up false charges against Israel on behalf of a “human rights council” that includes the Organization of the Islamic Conference, among other unsavory participants. As Brinkley puts it:

The Human Rights Council is already an embarrassment to the United Nations. Certainly reasonable people can criticize Israel, just as they can find fault with the Palestinians. But the council’s pathological obsession with Israel is its defining characteristic, and Falk is its embodiment.

Indeed, Falk’s well-known antipathy towards Israel led its Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expel him from the country earlier this week.

Falk, as Brinkley notes, has another compromising characteristic: he’s a 9/11 conspiracy theorist who believes the Bush administration perpetrated the attacks. Falk went so far as to write the preface to conspiracy author David Ray Griffin’s 2004 book, The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11, as well as a chapter in Griffin’s 2006 book, 9/11 and American Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out.

Horrifying New Disease Contains Identical Material to GM “Food”

Posted by webabuser on December 17, 2008

Rima E. Laibow, MD, Natural Solutions Foundation, 16 Dec 2008 - via: Question Everything

Just in case you thought it was fine to eat Genetically Modified foods (better identified as “FrankenFoods”), along comes a study which makes it clear that you are eating this make believe non-food at your own peril and, worse yet, you are feeding it to your kids at their peril as well. It is important to note that Codex Alimentarius, which sets standards for the international trade of food, permits genetically modified foods and makes no effort to limit, control or eliminate them. In fact, the US has been trying for years to prevent the labeling of GM foods and seed in international trade to emulate its domestic policy which prohibits any label indication that foods contain GM ingredients, as 75-80% of all foods sold in the US do.

Now it appears that the increasingly prevalent nightmare of a disease called “Morgellon’s Disease” may be a result of GM crops and food.

Continued.

Collection of reports on the above and note this is a lefty site.

Press Statement
Office of the Spokesman
Washington, DC
December 18, 2008
Question Taken at December 18, 2008 Daily Press Briefing

Israel/Palestinians: Hamas Declares End to Ceasefire (Taken Question)

Question: What is our reaction to Hamas’ announcement that it has declared an end to its cease-fire with Israel in Gaza?

Answer: As the Quartet stated on December 15, the Egyptian-brokered calm that came into effect on June 19, 2008 should be respected and extended.

The U.S. condemns recent rocket attacks on Israel. Violence will not advance, but retard, the hope for peace between Israelis and Palestinians, which currently is being pursued by the legitimate Palestinian government of President Abbas.

Hamas can be a part of the peaceful process by accepting the principles outlined by the Quartet: renunciation of violence and terror, recognition of Israel, and acceptance of previous agreements between the parties, including the Roadmap. .

Police arrest 8 Pakistanis

JOHANNESBURG - Police arrested eight Pakistani nationals who were unloading stolen groceries in Devon on Thursday, Gauteng police said.

Captain Johannes Ramphora said a Spar truck filled with groceries was hijacked outside Devon between 8 and 9am.

The hijackers were three men in a white Toyota Corolla armed with a firearm.

A few hours later police received information that the stolen truck was parked outside a home in Devon. When the police arrived, they found eight men, ages 25-53, from Pakistan, unloading the truck.

“They tried to run away but they were cornered by police,” said Ramphora.

All the items were recovered and the eight men will be charged in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court with possession of stolen goods

The home the men were unloading the groceries into had an attached tuck shop.

Police are continuing to investigate.

For Immediate Release
December 19, 2008 FBI Dallas
Contact: Special Agent Mark White
(972) 559-5000

Suspicious White Powder Letters Received Around the United States

Since Monday, December 8, letters containing a note and suspicious white powder have been received by the offices of more than 40 governors across the country. Additional letters have been received at several U.S. Embassies overseas, said Robert E. Casey, Jr., Special Agent in Charge, Dallas FBI.

The white powder in each of these letters has been field screened and the tests have met with negative results. The powder has been forwarded to local laboratories and testing to date has been negative for biological agents. The FBI has contacted the governors’ offices and the State Department to be on the lookout for additional letters.

Today, Mr. Casey announced the release of additional information regarding these mailings, to solicit the public’s help to identify the person or persons responsible for these crimes. Photographs of envelopes sent to governors’ offices are below. Although the photographs are of the envelopes sent to the governors of North Carolina and Connecticut, they are similar in content to all letters sent to the governors’ offices and embassies overseas.
Photos of North Carolina letter

Photo of Connecticut letter

These envelopes have the following characteristics:

1.The postmarks reflect mailing on December 4, December 8, or December 11, 2008.

2.The postmark is either “Dallas, Texas” or “North Texas”. The “North Texas” postmark reflects the envelope was processed through the mail facility in Coppell, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

Dallas Postmark North Texas Postmark

3.The return addresses used have been one of four addresses for FBI offices in Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and El Paso, Texas. Names have been redacted from these addresses; the FBI is not disclosing the names at this time.

4.There is a note within the envelope. The content of that note has been the same in each mailing. Although the content of the note is not being disclosed at this time, the meaning of the message is not clear.

Dallas return address El Paso return address
Houston return address San Antonio return address

Although the substance contained in the mailings is not harmful, the threatening mailings not only constitute a federal crime, but cause alarm to victims and victim institutions and expend costly resources of police, fire, and other emergency responders and state, local, and federal laboratories.

The FBI and United States Postal Inspection Service intend to vigorously investigate these crimes and arrest the person or persons responsible.

The Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these mailings.

Anyone with information on who may be sending these letters is requested to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL FBI (1-800-225-5324), the Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455, or local law enforcement. If you receive a letter, please notify the FBI and your local authorities. Information on how to handle a suspicious package can be found on www.fbi.gov.

**Note: All of the above photographs are of the highest quality available.**

I guess I got side tracked and need to check this thread,
“I’z a cat” is fantastic and would fit on either thread.

I couldn’t write a thank you, until I got it copied to send my sister, who had a cat that looked like that for many years.

Thank you, Thank you, I so needed a laugh.
