A Savage Backalsh
Bob Parks: Black & Right ^ | 7/28/08 | Bob Parks

Talk show host Michael Savage made some controversial remarks (so what else is new) about kids who are said to be autistic.

I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot. Michael Savage, Savage Nation, 7/16/08
I can just imagine the horde of screaming moms, flooding the station's switchboards in sheer anger.

No backlash....in the context of his comments, he was right. And good for him for bringing this issue to front. Tom Cruise did the same thing and got unfairly attacked. The drug industry is a money machine...I don’t trust a lot of these “kid” diagnosis.

Screaming moms, screaming brats ... Sounds like fatherless households to me, or ones with metrosexual, spineless males in homes out of control.

Every once & a while I would have to give the speech that our home was not a democracy, but was ruled by a benevolent dictator ... me.

So Savage isn’t allowed to have an opinion? Give him a break, he has made his reputation on his opinion. If you don’t like that, ignore him.

That wasn’t an opinion. It was an asinine statement made by an ignorant a$$hole with a PhD in food who skinny dips with gay poets.

I heard the statements(LIVE) and this view of them is pure "spin".. and "damage control".. Savage is a medical professional himself.. before becoming a radio talk host.. What he says bears at least some attention.. The drug industry is NO WAY pure.. and lobbys Congress(heavily) for WHOSE BENEFIT?.. Well DUuuugh!...

Spoiled children is NOT a medical condition its a PARENT CONDITION.. Some kids are indeed autistic, but MOST ARE NOT..

I have to wonder if he has ADD and autism confused. If so, I would agree with him. Autism would be hard to confuse with a "bad kid". ADD, OTOH, is just mostly brats getting Ritalin to sell on the playground.

If the commercials are correct on autism, I would be demanding some answers as to why there is so many as opposed to 20 years ago. Either it's over diagnosed or we have something in the water supply. It is, however a real disease and no amount of discipline will phase it.

ADD, OTOH, has been proven t be a scam with moms telling their kids to "act up" so they can get SSI payments.

Excuse me, but what proof is there for that assumption?

What proof?

My son has ADD, he has been fully tested and it has been verified.

We are not receiving any SSI for this disability.

It’s not about autism or brats. It’s the left taking Savage off the air for his opinions about certain victim groups. It’s obvious to me that the left has operatives who monitor and record every broadcast by Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity and anyone else they want to destroy. They then pick through the words to see if there’s anything they can get them on. If so, the next day you hear how someone was “offended.”

[ Excuse me, but what proof is there for that assumption? ]

Whether a child is autisic OR NOT ia also an assumtion.. There are ZERO hard rules to decide.. THATS WHAT Savage is railing about.. ZERO diagnostic physical rules to decide on autism.. its a judgment call.. an OPINION.. An opinion made by many that are being PAID(financed, grants, employed by) BY SOME DRUG COMPANY..

Thats WHAT Savage (a PHD medical professional) is complaining about.. Is he 100% correct?.. WHO CARES.. His questions should at least be entertained.. Clue: Some so-called autistic kids are in reality SPOILED CHILDREN or even coddled children.. DRUGGED into passivity.. instead performing their coddled FITS...

There is no doubt many of their parents are DRUGGED on something.. "grass", prescription or other illegal drugs..

Follow the money:::

Every time a school district gets a child labed as other than “normal” with ANY kind of “Problem”, they get drastically increased funding for the school district for that child.
Where I live, normal kids get the school district about $7000 per child in annual school funding.
Anything else in label gets about $26,000 in school district funding.
Anyone have to be a CPA to figure out why all these kids are being labed with various problems???

As for the Autism: IF the problems aren’t attributable to vaccinations, then prior drug use by parents or grandparents where there has been possible damage to DNA is my guess as to why this sudden increase in Autism has occurred.
All the doctors and hospitals cannot be responsible for damaged kids like they are being blamed. Drug use has to be part of the problem.
Look at the statistics since the 60’s and the hippie generation......

‘Asinine’ or not its his opinion...an opinion that is shared by a lot of people and to try and deprive a person of his livelihood because someone doesn’t like what he says is wrong.

Diagnostic guidelines for autism

The American Association of Childhood and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has established guidelines for diagnosing autism.1 The criteria are designed so a health professional can assess a child’s behavior relating to core symptoms of autism. Different types of diagnostic behavioral tests may be used to complement these criteria. The specific AACAP diagnostic guidelines are as follows.1

A. A total of six (or more) items from (1), (2), and (3), with at least two from (1) and one from (2) and (3):

(1) Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:

(a) Marked impairment in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors, such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body postures, and gestures, to regulate social interaction
(b) Failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level
(c) Lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people (e.g., by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest)
(d) Lack of social or emotional reciprocity

(2) Qualitative impairments in communication, as manifested by at least one of the following:

(a) Delay in or total lack of the development of spoken language (not accompanied by an attempt to compensate through alternative modes of communication such as gesture or mime)
(b) In individuals with adequate speech, marked impairment in the ability to initiate or sustain a conversation with others
(c) Stereotyped and repetitive use of language or idiosyncratic language
(d) Lack of varied, spontaneous make-believe play or social imitative play appropriate to developmental level

(3) Restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities, as manifested by at least one of the following:

(a) Encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus
(b) Apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals
(c) Stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms (e.g., hand or finger flapping or twisting, or complex whole-body movements)
(d) Persistent preoccupation with parts of objects

B. Delays or abnormal functioning in at least one of the following areas, with onset prior to age 3 years: social interaction; language as used in social communication; symbolic or imaginative play.

C. The disturbance is not better accounted for by Rett’s disorder or childhood disintegrative behavior.
