Sounds to me like he’s saying that many children diagnosed with autism don’t really have it.

My spouse was shown my e- mail and corrects me (would’nt you know it, being a teacher once).
She says without the Ritalin, the child would go back to screaming. This when the mother forgot to give it to him in the morning.

Heir Savage showed his ASS on this topic. And I speak from personal experience.

Yeh, sure Mike. My son is just a ‘brat’.

What a friggin clown.

He Mike, maybe YOU should go on meds so you can stay on topic more than 5 seconds a rant.

Seek, Look, and listen.

I did listen to Michael Savage's whole show and did a little research before passing judgment. He spoke from the heart with facts, his basic premise was hard edged but sound. He had plenty of experts on that supported his points.

My family is been down this road. Those who classify the kids and cheer-lead/demand funding the programs should not be ones paid to treat them.

We, and Dr. Savage, are mixing apples and anvils here.

Autism is a specifically diagnosable disease. It first long before a child's age reason. It is highlighted by a disconnection from society and surroundings, but it also often brings with it other “skills” that non-autistic children cannot learn or develop.

Examples are the pianist who can play a 30 piano piece with no music sheets (he is blind) after hearing it once. The young man who can remember the models, colors and license plate numbers of the last 1000 cars passing him on the highway, or the various examples of talents of autistic children shown in “Rainman.” The movie was fictional but the abilities of autistics were not.

On the other hand, ADD or now often called ADHD is all too often a case of lack or imposed parental/adult controls. Children learn that they can get away with anything, and then do.

Example: a flight from Orlando to New York. An eleven year old boy would not stop running up and down the aisle, shouting, cursing, hitting people, etc. He ignored the seat bely sign and the stewardess’ semi-polite instructions repeatedly. The father's constant (whining )response was “What can I dooooo?”

Finally a man across the aisle from my wife gently grabbed the kid as he ran by. When the kid tried to squirm away, the gentleman discretely tightened his grip and whispered to the kid, “Listen you little brat, sit down, shut up, or I'm going to rip off your head and s**t down your throat.”

The kid sat down and was quiet the rest of the flight.

I am offended by Michael Savage and the people on this thread who have no empathy for families dealing with autism.

YES, government schools, state entities, lawyers, and the entire Autism Cottage Industry are profiting. And some of that is DEAD wrong. There is very little to be done for high-functioning autism, and the best things that can be done, can be done for free (or the cost of a parent’s full time duty).

But autism is very real, and probably caused by more than only genetics. There is SOMETHING different in our nutrition, environment, vaccines, that is acting as a neurotoxin to our children. Autism is NOT the only epidemic hitting us. Many auto-immune chronic conditions are also more prevalent and deadly than before — asthma, just to name one.

Autistic kids might be the canaries in the coal mine for the health of our nervous systems (including our brains).

Autism is very serious and families dealing with it need empathy and moral support, not accusations of bad parenting.

Nonsense. If he cared about autistic kids, he wouldn’t have spewed words such as “moron” and “idiot.” . . . He has cheapened political discourse and hurt defenseless children. There’s nothing conservative about that.

I thought maybe the critics were listening to an abridged version. I listened and there was everything as far as I can. He clearly mentioned the fraud and the government checks, for example.

Talk about "cheapened" even conservatives are worried about families losing government checks even knowing that their children's autism was possibly misdiagnosed.

So much for some conservatives "concern" over wasteful government spending and -- no other word for handing out checks to families whose children are not autistic -- fraud.

Thanks for posting the link -- I thought some conservatives were just not getting the rest of the story and once they heard about the fraud and waste of taxpayer money on kids who have been misdiagnosed would object to the waste. Boy was I wrong about those "conservatives."

Michael Weenie is bitter about autism because he has some.

Anybody who yells and curses at listeners has to be mostly retarded.

Medical Science believes Autism is likely of 5 variants and is genetic. It was amongst us known for as far back as 100 years. However the treatment by society of the person with it made a persons chances of seeing a person with it Nil. Simply meaning they were labeled insane and locked away for life so persons like Savages Pappy didn't have to see them.

Radical changes in the way this nation looked upon such disorders including CP and Downs Syndrome etc began because of another epidemic that left literally millions crippled for life. It was called Polio. From the Polio epidemic to help the survivors rehabilitations centers including schools {Special Education Centers} were first built.

Kids who due to lack of knowledge by medical science often died at birth of shortly after suddenly were being saved. Among them included CP babies, kids with Muscular Dystrophy, and the obvious Polio survivors. Some of the long attached social stigma began to be overcome. Is Autism real? Yes but like most Neurological Disorders there is little understanding of the cause or origins except it runs in some families it seems like many neurological disorders do like MS, MD, etc.

As our national population increases it only makes sense that there would be an increase in these disorders as well as in many case with many disorders there are no cures, magic wands, or pills. Autism has been researched for nearly 100 years.

Can it be misdiagnosed? Maybe. I've seen crack baby kids act like them. Actually I saw one yesterday. The kid was disconnected. The mom took drugs. No legalization of drugs is not a harmless too the user only act. But again 75 years ago these kids and kids with Downs, etc would have been locked away.

Many Autistics can be helped. Some to a very great extent and some will require supervision life long. It is the same with many other disorders. As a kid I knew at least a dozen kids with Autism. I knew as many more Polio survivors as well as CP and MD. I knew one boy who could preach a sermon one minute and cuss and rant the next. He changed as quick as a light switch.

Medical Science isn't perfect and there are hundreds of what is called Orphan Disorders out there as well. Simply meaning disorders that due to lack of research some can not even be named yet. Some will fall into generalizations like Transverse Myelitis for example till more is learned.

The same with ADD ADHD. There are other disorders that produce very similar behavioral and attention issues. They deal with sensory processing and are common to kids with allergies and chronic ear infections as children etc. Medical Science is still in the early stages of research. Now before someone screams Big Pharm let me say this to you. The sensory disorders I speak of SSRI's and Ritalin can not help. It is Vestibular Science not mental health. Diagnoses comes from professionals who can not prescribe anyone so much as a common Aspirin.

I've seen how professionals from Special Education handle Autistics and they don't say crap like behave or I'll pinch your head off. Would you tell a kid with MD to walk or I'll break your legs? Of course not.

Todays schools simply are not really geared up for true Special Education and mainstreaming needs to be halted with the S.E. Centers re-opened for the benefit of all especially the kids needing the help. Individual schools who have a few kids with various disorders can not accomplish this task. It takes a fully staffed group which can serve all in one central location offering much to many.

Me thinks Savage would not know an Autistic if he saw one but would likely call a crack child such out of ignorance. Think about this as well Mr Savage. These kids parents have excepted their children and try to help them rather than give them up or put them away as in the not so long ago days of old. You see them and you go on your way. It's a 24/7/365 task for the parents and you just saw a few seconds of it.

Thank the Good Lord it wasn't your child and consider yourself blessed. Ironically many parentsd of special needs children consider themselves blessed for the child but I doubt he can ever understand why. At the same time learn compassion and understanding till the facts {of that individual child} actually say different.

When you first notice that your child has a speech delay — around his second birthday — autism is the last thing that you want to think about.

My wife's brother didn't say a word until he was four years old. Now he is a top salesman for IBM. Had he been a kid today, assclown "doctors" would have long since f**cked him up with meds.

Savage is right. He backed off his "99%" figure (later said 75-80%) and this author is wrong not to mention that. I am exhausted from my prior comments on other threads regarding the disaster for schools that has resulted from the mis-diagnosis and over-diagnosis of "autism", "Asperger's", and "autistic spectrum disorder"--which follows on the heels of a similar scandalous explosion in ADD/AHDH "diagnoses". So I won't repeat it here.

My six-year-old son has high-functioning autism

There is no such thing as "high-functioning autism". It is something else. Call it something else. Don't feed the autistic fanaticism by embracing bullshit.

And he shouldn’t claim to be a conservative. He has cheapened political discourse and hurt defenseless children. There’s nothing conservative about that.

There is nothing conservaive about screaming "For the Children!" and embracing the fraud perpetrated by incompetent doctors and Big Pharma.

As someone was nearly diagnosed as autistic, his comment that the scholastic authorities are “reluctant” to diagnose people as such is a load of hogwash.

It was the first label they wanted to push on me. Fortunately a hearing test saved me from that.
