I have been reading a few papers online from the Pak area
seems that part of the world is the most violent, even ignoring Afghanistan and Iraq

I’ve thought much the same thing since 9/11, that Pakistan is much more dangerous to the West than either Iran or Iraq.
At the very least we should have declared war against those many Islamist groups on the State Dept.’s Designated Terrorist List and who make their homes in Pakistan.
When Moosh goes and Nawaz Sharif gets back into office all hell will break loose in Pakistan.

Most of the AQ bigwigs have been caught in Pakistan, or reside there now. AQ has been financed by Pakistan heroin money for a decade+ (which by the way, Pakistan runs the Afghan opium/heroin business and is technically a narco-economy like Columbia or Mexico).
That was a strategic decision on OBL's part. He was trying to fracture Saudi-U.S. relations.
At some point, AQ will probably do something similar using cells comprised of Pakistani nationals.
