In 1972 Nixon won the fourth largest landslide in history - a list topped by George Washington's two unanimous elections in an infinitely less populous USA. The powers that be initially used mass media to drive Agnew from office, replacing him with the liberal Republican Ford. With an acceptable replacement in place mass media elites masterfully took down a most popular president (for perceived sins against communism in actuality). Mass media's propaganda proved so effective that to this very day a large segment of population views the omnipotent mass media monopoly of the early 1970s as a victim of Nixon's white house.

On second thought it goes deeper than superficial resentment of Nixonian anti-communism. Nixon acted as a scapegoat to enable egoists to unleash a torrent of pure hate in the name of truth, justice, and the American way. Egoists fancied themselves as victims to provide requisite psychological cover for their innate darkness on full display.

History repeats itself with Bush.
