A Canadian woman says she plans to release a giant lobster after she paid $1,000 to rescue the crustacean from a fish market.

Laura-Leah Shaw forked over $1,000 to purchase the 22-pound lobster, dubbed Big Dee-Dee, from the Big Fish seafood market in Shediac, New Brunswick, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Sunday.

The report said two unnamed Ontario groups contributed $1,000 each to rescue the animal, which is thought to be 100 years old.

Big Fish was auctioning Dee Dee off for an opening price of $1,000, the Broadcasting Corp. said.

Denis Breau, owner of the fish market, said at least 1,000 people visited Big Fish to catch a glimpse of Dee Dee, who was caught in the beginning of July.

Shaw said she is preparing to travel to the Maritimes region of eastern Canada Monday to let Dee Dee go into the wild.

My wife, whose daughter is presently working the kitchen at a major hotel in New Brunswick, suggested they put a tracking device on the sucker and sell it a few more times...

: )

Hahahahaaaa ... I had to look that one up:

(from Wikipedia):
Soylent Green is a 1973 dystopian science fiction movie depicting a future in which the greenhouse gas effect results in severe damage to the environment.

Somehow I just *knew* that Algore had a hand in the topic of this thread ..... /laughs

I thought of that as soon as I saw the headline.

"Pinchy would have wanted it this way...."

It was Sean Hannity’s liberal “Flipper” girl who bought two `Lobstergram’ crustaceans and released them into lethal fresh water.

El Rushbo covered the story where a horrified Katie Couric watched a chef slice & dice a live lobster for sauteeing in the pan. She lead an effort to sue the chef LOL.

Hopefully, this time the Lobster's rescuers will remember to remove the rubber bands from the claws before releasing.

http://www.mndaily.com/daily/1998/02/06/news/ap301.ap/

"A close-up on TV that aired Tuesday and Wednesday showed the rubber band firmly stuck on the lobster's claw. That's when the calls started coming in -- about 100 to WHDH in Boston, and more to KUSA in Denver."

You should laways use claw locks: Otherwise a predator may take your claw and use it against you.

Geez, I hope there’s a guy standing about 20 feet away with a big net and a pot of boiling water.

Was anyone really going to kill the lobster? It seems a shame to do that to a hundred year old animal, and it probably wouldn’t taste that good.

I would have liked to see a lobster that big go to an exhibit, with a display on the side on how big it was when Taft was president, during WWI, the stock market crash, etc.

That would have been a great educational experience for the kids.

Someone appears to be rewriting history. As I recall the story, overpopulation (per Erlich) was the cause of all of the world's troubles.

I’m reminded of that video of a seal that was released only to be eaten by an orca right away. Anyone got a handy link?

Reminds me of a Lobster that was “rescued” up here in Boston several years ago. The idiot PETA nut released it into the surf, which is retarded enough but the d*bag also neglected to take the pegs out of its claws. So even if the poor critter made it to a lobster friendly area, it was completely defenseless
