Al Gore blew into Washington on Thursday, warning that "our very way of life" is imperiled if the U.S. doesn't end "the carbon age" within 10 years. No one seriously believes such a goal is even remotely plausible. But if you want to know what he and his acolytes think this means in practice, the Environmental Protection Agency has just published the instruction manual. Get ready for the lawnmower inspector near you.
In a huge document released last Friday, the EPA lays out the thousands of carbon controls with which they'd like to shackle the whole economy. Central planning is too artful a term for the EPA's nanomanagement. Thankfully none of it has the force of law -- yet. However, the Bush Administration has done a public service by opening this window on new-wave green thinking like Mr. Gore's, and previewing what Democrats have in mind for next year.

Watch out for the EPA and other Watermelons; they'll try to eliminate two stroke chain saws, as they've eliminated two stroke outboards. I have a flat transom canoe that I power with a five horse Nissan two stroke outboard. That motor weighs 44 lb. and is hard enough to put on the transom and remove from it. A 55 lb. four stroke would be pure agony. Once the engines get much bigger even the two stroke ones are too heavy to handle manually so going to a four stroke isn't that much trouble.
Thought this was going to be about the legions of undocumented workers mowing yards these days.
The Dems' upcoming "green convention" is a harbinger of this. The DNCC has spent months developing a carbon-footprint "calculator" measuring the environmental impact of each event and suggesting that delegates pay a fee, or offset, to fund renewable projects. This little tool could be the prototype of a weapon of mass economic destruction.
Al Gore is a dangerous lunatic who should not even be allowed loose in society.
The Lawn Mower Inspectors!
Hey, now we’re beginning to see that fantastic green job creation the enviros have been promising.
I’m sure we’ll see more job creation in the green revolution.
As a guy who lives in the country, I have my own water supply (well), and my own sewage treatment (septic) facilities.
Why the government can regulate how much water my toilet uses is beyond my understanding.
I would invite Mr. Gore to personally inspect the innards of my septic tank and make his suggestions for improvement...
Obama’s pronouncement that we may have to ask the world what it thinks when we keep our thermostats at 72 may well become a reality. The government may soon be controlling our home thermostats to save the world from the sham of global warming. If these EPA rules see the light of day I expect our standard of living will retreat to about what it was in 1920.
