Keep in mind that the results of the ‘06 midterm elections resulted in 49 Republican, 49 Democrat, Joe Lieberman, and Bernie Sanders of Vermont as Independents. Both Sanders and Lieberman voted with Dems. to organize the Senate to give the Dems. the majority. As of now the Dems. need Lieberman to keep their majority. If he had voted with Republicans to organize the Senate, it would have been 50-50, and then Dick Cheney would have been the tie breaking vote to give control to Republicans.
If Dems. gain Senate seats in this years’ election, then they won’t need Lieberman to keep the majority. If that happens I predict it will be a public divorce because they won’t need Lieberman anymore. Esp. if Dems. get to 57 or 58 senators, it won’t even be close, and Lieberman goes under the bus.
I wish Republicans treated their RINOs like this. Gotta give the Dems credit here. Anyone that strays off the leftist plantation is booted.
True, however, Zell was on his way out the door. If I recall, he was in the private sector when he was appointed to replace former Georgia Senator Paul Coverdell, a Republican who was killed in a plane crash. His term ended in 2004, and he was not going to run for reelection.
Not a slight against Zell, just reporting. At least Joe doesn't have to worry about being reelected, he is two years into his six.
Six years.. geez that’s way too long for anyone to serve in the Senate.
These people are making careers out of what was originally just supposed to be a public service.
My Senator supports Term limits and so do I.
Getting any other politician in Washington to agree to them is another thing.
You are correct and I despise every one of them!!!

I have never advocated that Joe become a republican. I merely think that if the Dems have already dumped him he should remain an independent in fact as well as in name.
I was trying to point out that the Dems didn’t dump Joe, but Joe dumped the Dems.
“Lieberman’s support of McCain frays ties to Democratic friends”
Why? I thought Juanito had many Democrat friends as well.
You are 100% right on!
