In the interest of absolute accuracy, I will note that years ago there was an African-American judge on the bench here in Fulton County GA (I think he retired some time in the 80s.)

He was kind man, and a good man, but not a very good judge. Like James I & VI trying to hear a lawsuit, he saw the good in everybody and the justness of every cause. So he found it VERY hard to make a decision. Motions and petitions sat on his desk for months, sometimes years, and heaven help you if you actually had a jury trial before him, because it would never end. (Most people eventually settled or pleaded out.)

His nickname was "The Black Hole," because everything went into his office and nothing ever came out.
