A comment about Dallas County's central collection system for tickets ignited a controversy when Judge Thomas Jones claimed Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield's phrase about a "black hole" was racially insensitive.

Commissioner Defends His Position that "Black Hole" is Racist Term
Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price is sticking to his comments that the term "black hole," which a colleague used, is racist. Price also says language such as "angel food cake" and "devil's food cake" is also racially insensitive.
I'm sure that after no more than a couple of sentences of normal verbal discourse, such people would find him of no more consequence than an amoeba.
I don’t think that was a judge...no judge could be that stupid. What I do think it is is a town council meeting where the guy with his back to the camera who is complaining really doesn’t understand that a black hole is an astronomical entity with density so massive that even light cannot escape. The term is in no way racial, but is a common euphemism for anything where something comes in (e.g., gov’t paper work) but nothing every goes out. Probably a good thing I wasn’t sitting there...I’d have laughed him out of the room.
It is frightening there are people who are that ignorant.
The worst part-you could explain it to him from now until next Tuesday, and he still wouldn’t get it.
These people are lunatics and should be restrained for their own good.
Something for Mr. Price to remember:
It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
Believe me, he could be that stupid. The Dallas school board and city council is almost entirely composed of stupid oafs with giant chips on their shoulders who revel in their victimhood.
I don’t live IN Dallas, but near enough to it that I’ve seen this stuff happening for almost 40 years.
John Wiley Price is a race baiter and all-around loud mouth agitator who loves the spotlight. He may be marginally more intelligent than the judge in question but possibly not.......

Living in the DFW area JWP has been an attention-grabbing buffoon in the public eye for over 15 years now. He's toned it down a bit the past few years but you know what they say about a leopard and its spots?
Unfortunately, no, it’s not a joke.
But to those of us who have endured John Wiley Price’s antics for decades, it’s not a surprise either.
Public Education owes this man an apology.

Just as an aside, I recall reading that there was a bit of controversy when the term black hole was first being used in the late '60s. It seems that when translated word-for-word in Russian it's a rather vulgar phrase, and it raised a few eyebrows at some international astronomical conferences.
