Desperate to escape unemployment in their isolated enclaves, Kosovo Serbs are journeying as far as Iraq and Afghanistan to make a living.
“Although before I left I had worked in management, gaining experience in a different atmosphere, culture and environment seemed a precious opportunity.”
All the Kosovo Serbs who had gone to these far-off war zones agreed they took risks with their personal safety but none felt a dilemma over getting work through US companies.
Indeed, Branislav Nikolic was decorated by the US in Iraq for the courage he showed under fire. After an attack on the US base in which worked, he moved wounded US soldiers to an infirmary.
“I was employee of the month on several occasions and reached the position of head of an administrative department,” he recalled.
Vanja Boskovic contrasted his experience of work in Afghanistan favourably with the ambiance from which he came, where nepotism appears to rule and employment without “connections” is almost impossible.
“Not all the experiences in my stay were positive but it was easy to get used to a system in which everyone knew what their job was and where work, knowledge and effort were valued,” he said.
The return home to Kosovo brought relief because the men were reunited with their families. But the reality of modern Kosovo is too bleak for them to feel much certainty about the future. Since Kosovo declared independence in February, tensions are on the rise again.
Nikolic feels dissatisfied with what he encountered on his return. “In Kosovo and Strpce it’s almost impossible to get a job without strong connections,” he said. “I will have a difficult time also because everyone thinks I earned enough money in Afghanistan not to need to work.”

I worked with a ton of these people and on the whole, they acted rude and entitled and they were like tits on a boar with a couple exceptions.
Imagine that, Kosovo Serbs saving American lives in the front lines of the War on Terror. Don’t look for any of your beloved Albanian Jihadists on our side of the lines there!
Albania has troops in Iraq and has said they will say in Iraq as long as America does. They have troops in Afghanistan too. Serbia doesn’t.
Funny, so do Taliban troops.
But that does not make them good guys.
I’ve seen some of your posts, and your running feud with Diocletian...most entertaining. Can you offer me an explanation for current pro-Kosovar U.S. policy?

From many of your previous posts you give the impression that you “hate” all that cooperate with Iran...seems your “beloved” Albanians are also working with Iran and have been for some time!

Soldiers from Albania are far removed from the criminal and Jihadist element that have moved into Kosovo. They share a nationality and the similarities end there.
Beyond the initial need of the Clinton administration to get Monica off the headlines, the continuation of our policy in Kosovo appears to work against our self interest.
Economic involvement with Iran is one thing, but Serbia has a military security pact with Iran. That’s different.
You can either believe that the US government supports Kosovo because they support jihad and want to destroy Christianity, or you can believe that we don’t give a crap about Balkan ethnic squabbles and we are advancing our own national interests by extending our permanent military presence into Southeastern Europe, closer to the Middle East.
Supporting a Jihadist state where Christian churches are put to the torch does not advance our own national interests. Period.

Serbia has military/security pacts with several countries...including the US. The Serbian army even trains with Americans in Ohio (see: http://www.vojska.mod.gov.yu/eng/MVS/Ohajo/01.07.2007_bolja_komunikacija_sa_svetom.html)
Serbia also contributes to UN peacekeeping forces in Libera, Ivory Coast and DR Congo.
My point is that the protests by Serbs that the US supports “jihadists” ring hollow because the Serbs are military allies with the most evil jihadists on Earth.
Perhaps you can explain how retreating from the area is in our interest. (rather than in the interests of foreign powers)
