Muslims in Britain should be able to live according to Sharia law, the country's most senior judge has said. The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips
Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, the Lord Chief Justice, strongly backed Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, over his suggestion earlier this year that aspects of Sharia law should be adopted in Britain.
The archbishop's remarks sparked a national debate and led to calls for his resignation.
Risking inflaming that controversy again, Lord Phillips has said that Muslims in Britain should be able to use Sharia to decide financial and marital disputes.
The judge did add that only the criminal courts should have the power to decide when a crime has been committed and when to impose punishment.
But his suggestion that different religious groups should run their affairs according to different rules sparked warnings that community cohesion could be undermined.
In a speech at the East London Muslim Centre in east London, Lord Phillips said it was "not very radical" for Dr Williams to argue that Sharia law can be used to help govern issues like family disputes and the sale of financial products.
Lord Phillips said: "It is possible in this country for those who are entering into a contractual agreement to agree that the agreement shall be governed by law other than English law."
Therefore, he said, he could see no reason why Sharia law should not be used to settle disputes in this country.
He said: "There is no reason why principles of Sharia law, or any other religious code, should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution."

So do kids voluntarily enter into an agreement with Muslim parents to live under Sharia law? Settling family disputes inevitably involves children who have no say in their situation. What you suggest is akin to allowing people to sell themselves into slavery. There are some things you cannot agree to under contract and maintain a legal system based on western values.
Just because some elites are willing to accept this, there is no evidence that the British people as a whole are willing to commit cultural suicide in this way. Muslims are only about 2% of the population of Britain. And as I pointed out in my post above there is a strong conservative/nationalist backlash to this crap building up. That's a big part of why the conservatives are ahead by 20% in the polls, and Labor is stalling on holding elections.
And what, oh great lord, will you do to those who violate British law while obeying sharia? Shall sawing off the heads of muslim apostates and those who offend allah be just peachy with you? And what of the good and proper muslims who slice and dice a wayward daughter who perhaps is seen with a non-muslim or *gasp* flashed an uncovered ankle?
Certainly, Britain will be a better place if there are many, many standards of "justice" for its good citizens, right? After all, it's only a matter of one culture being just as righteous as another. We are all equally just, of course, and some more so than others. A homicide bomber killing non-muslims in a British airport or train station or bus is only doing allah's swill. No crime, no foul. Better to incarcerate the foolish citizen who desires a gun for protection than a murderous islamic terrorist.
I just wish Britain would realize their greatness once again. The world owes Britain so much for spreading their ideas of law and order, of freedom and that plucky never say die spirit. What happened to that? What the hell happened to you??? Why have you people castrated yourselves?

Please. All legal cases involving minors are by definition resolved by others without their consent.
Are all children in western society slaves because they are unable to execute contracts on their own behalf until they're 18?
What are you arguing about, now? First this was going to destroy them, now you say it's a tiny pinprick? And do you mean cultural or societal suicide?
There is PLENTY of evidence that classic British culture is dying in the big cities...(while English and Scottish nationalism rises in more rural/working class areas)....but cultural and societal destruction of America and Britain will not come as the result of Mooslimb divorces.
It will come voluntarily by leftist-induced guilt at the ballot box if it does.
Remember to tell your grandkids that you knew Briton back in the Pre-Islamic period.
