So tell me Mr. Biblical Scholar, where exactly was the diameter and the circumference measured? This should be easy for a rational Biblical Scholar man like yourself.
Oh, but it’s a biology text? So how is it that some people get to pick and choose when the Bible is firm in its recollection and when it’s being figurative but others can’t?
I think it’s rather arrogant to lord over people with the solemn word of God when it’s only your narrow interpretation of events.
Oh..and it says everything I need to know about you when you stated my reference of pi is an attack on the Bible. You aren’t viewing science and evolution as an effort to learn but rather an attack on your belief system. I cited it as an example of how a literalist could destroy mathematics if they insisted the text was perfect and absolute and any mathematical difference was heresy.
But like I said, you’ve made firm your beliefs and set your faith upon them. That’s a rather poor and arrogant way to read the Bible. The proper Christian should try and keep science and faith in one accord and not toss aside science because it differs with your interpretation of faith. It’s not an attack to suggest that some passages of the Bible aren’t literal recollections of events.
After considering your opinion I filed it where it belongs. The point was to illustrate the irrationality of using Pi as an attack on the Bible. You are as irrational as the other fellow. The Bible is not a math text. The Bible never mentions tenths of a cubic no less non repeating irrational numbers. It makes no claim whatsoever as to rational or irrational.Sometimes it helps to connect a few dots.So tell me Mr. Biblical Scholar, where exactly was the diameter and the circumference measured? This should be easy for a rational Biblical Scholar man like yourself.
If you are an inerrantist, the absolutely exact measurements are 10 and 30 as stated in the Bible, no more, no less, no fraction, because there can be no error in the Bible. This means pi is 3. Our actual measurements and mathematical calculations are irrelevant and wrong, because the Bible says it is 3.
If you actually have a functioning brain, you realize the Bible is not inerrant and some reason such as rounding or lack of knowledge caused the authors to write 10 and 30.
What are the largest and smallest numbers that can be exessed in the original language of the OT?
The Bible is good on Pi. The masoretic text has the circumference of the laver at 31 5/12 cubits. This makes it the most accurate rendition of Pi until the 19th century, and sufficiently accurate for most machine work.
Check in to Chuck Missler's web site to find some really mind boggling stuff on the Bible and Pi. In Genesis, Pi is ELS coded through the entire text, accurate to several hundred decimal places. (who knows why)
