James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.

The satellite record (and this is the warmer of the two satellite records) shows no new spike above 1998. The 2010 El Nino is close though and the running average is a smidge ahead of 1998. All of the evidence supports a continued temperature increase of 0.1C or less per decade.
