GROTON, Conn., June 18, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ ----General Dynamics Electric Boat will christen New Hampshire (SSN-778), the U.S. Navy's newest and most advanced nuclear attack submarine, at a ceremony at its shipyard here on Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m.
Cheryl McGuinness of Portsmouth, N.H., is the ship's sponsor. Mrs. McGuinness lost her husband, Tom McGuinness, on September 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center attacks. He was the co-pilot of American Airlines Flight 11, which was flown into the north tower of the World Trade Center.

GO NAVY!
It’s to bad that when it matters we,us, will not have the balls to use it...so to save future aggravation lets just go ahead and give those plans to the Chicoms now. ya huh Mmmmmm
What’s that black thing that looks like an 18 wheelers smokestack?
Waste of how much $ ?
Not a waste. We will use it if we have too. Take that to the bank.
Look, I am an ex-submariner and love these things, and we should certainly keep our hand in the game as we may need these things for real some day. But there is a simple question. Use it for what? There are not a lot of terrorists with large fleets in open waters, and it is going to be a long long time before the Chinese can mount a real maritime threat.
A communications/EW mast.
Only if the time unit is femtoseconds.
Dude, you sound like a US admiral, circa 1938.
The ship is named for a state where more than half the citizens apparently don’t even think America should defend itself. I base this on the results of the 2006 election. And if polls are right, they will elect another left wing Democrat senator this fall. What’s happened to NH is pretty sad.
None as far as I'm concerned. Tax dollars didn't go to welfare or farm subsidies or the "War on Drugs." Instead, Americans were employed to design, construct, crew and maintain an asset which may well defend us in the future.
I think
COSCO
has more than enough tonnage to ferry material and troops over here. Shoot . . . they have bases on both ends of the Panama Canal already.
Didn’t they end up using the Long Beach Naval yard as well even though we sort of prevented them from owning it?
A few years ago, I asked a recently retired Navy Officer FREEPERS what percentage of the officer ranks he considered to be filled with globalists. He estimated 30%.
Given your experience . . .
Let’s assume that the CO was a globalist and the XO a patriot and the Senior Chief and most of the rest of the officer and senior enlisted were patriots. And somehow, the XO discovered that the CO was NOT going to fire on China because the globalists ordered him not to even though the Chinese subs had ALREADY sent nuclear missiles to most of our West Coast cities.
What do you think would happen in that scenario on the average Boat?
If I am not mistaken, that is the Navy version of a remarkable antenna built by Hi-Q Antennas. Google Hi-Q Antennas and compare their touted submarine antenna with what you see in the picture.
I would hope and pray a mutiny to free the birds.
I would want vengeance.
I have to acknowledge, I’m not an expert or ex-military, but I think that it is foolish to dismiss the Chinese threat.
Thanks. Yep. It looks like a Hi-Q antenna.
What, you think the Bilderbergers and CFR are somehow getting messages to submarines through globalist secret decoder rings?
” Tax dollars didn’t go to welfare or farm subsidies or the “War on Drugs.” Instead, Americans were employed to design, construct, crew and maintain an asset which may well defend us in the future. “
Americans - UNION members in liberal mecca-land CT . How many of these employees you think vote REPUB ?
How many border walls could we have built with the dough they spent of the NH ?
Ok, bubbleheads, what is it that is supposed to be so advanced about this boat? Looks like just another attack boat to me.
As long as they built it to specs, I don't care who they vote for. The infrastructure for SSNs is where it is. I'd love it if it were in Wyoming, but that ain't gonna happen.
As for the wall, let's get real. The lawsuits from "American" property owners and politicians have just begun. USS New Hampshire may sink a PLAN SSBN someday. A hell of a lot more bang for the buck than a wall.
