PUYALLUP, Wash. -- The woman accused of beating up and threatening a sex offender who had moved into her neighborhood says she was only trying to protect her daughter.

Tammy Lee Gibson told investigators she beat up William A. Baldwin with a baseball bat outside his home earlier this week. Gibson said she wouldn't hesitate to do it again, even as she faces assault and felony harassment charges.

While awaiting trial in jail, Gibson told KOMO News on Thursday she has no regrets.

"If it were up to me, I would kill him. I would kill him," she said.

According to police documents, Level-3 sex offender William A. Baldwin had moved into his uncle's Puyallup home earlier this month. Following his move, Pierce County deputies distributed flyers around the neighborhood to alert residents of his presence.

On Monday Gibson, an area resident, went to Baldwin's house in the 1800 block of River Road and asked for him.

When Baldwin stepped outside, she claimed she was going to kill him because Baldwin had molested her children. Gibson then proceeded to hit Baldwin repeatedly with her bat, the document said, leaving him with an injured arm.

I would advise against such public actions and proclamations however. There are better, more subtle ways to make sure her daughter remains safe from this animal.

Pretty hard to take care of or protect your child from jail or prison.

In 1998, Baldwin was convicted of molesting a 5-year-old girl. While on parole, he sexually assaulted another 5-year-old girl the following year, the sheriff's department said.

It sounds like this guy is a real turd-bird. Does anyone know where the levels of sex offenders are described?

However, there are cases of people who find themselves on the list for some petty charge such as urinating in public, a common practice in some very civilized countries where people walk home or take public transportation from the pubs and no reasonable alternative is available.

There is a big difference between doing this on a public park playground at noon day and peeing in a bush behind an alley at 1 a.m., but the law here makes no distinction.

What did he do to her or her daughter? If he had molested her daughter I can understand her actions.

My son was molested and now at 30 he is a drug addict. So I know some of the aftermath, but she had NO right to do this.

You CANNOT pay the debt fro committing a crime like that.

It would depend on what the nature of his offense was.

Consider the poor SOB who is 17 and is charged with consensual statutory rape of his 15 year old girlfriend by an unhappy father. While it is not “right” it is orders of magnitude different than some 40 year old guy forcibly raping that same 15 year old.

I don’t see using the fact that the guy had been previously convicted of a crime as a pretext for beating him up. We going to do that with every ex-criminal?
