For religious conservatives at the Texas Republican Convention, even the song list at Friday's prayer rally suggested dark days ahead for the GOP.
"We're going to support McCain," he said with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "He may not have been all of our first choice, but he is our choice."
"I'm going to support McCain and try to help people see the reality of the total picture and how dangerous Barack Obama is," said state Sen. Dan Patrick, a conservative talk-radio host with a strong evangelical following. "There is no other choice."

Very interesting. No Republican who clearly sees the handwriting on the wall is going to rush to endorse MacCain.
John McCain has always been right in his policies when it comes to how America should work, and conservatives like me have had it all wrong.
I know it sounds strange and even unbelievable to many here, but I once believed that Global Warming was a hoax used by the left in order to strip us of money and freedom, but Thanks to John McCain, I now know better.
And because he has supported so many of the democrat policies and platforms for so long, it is increasingly clear to me that he has had the bold foresight to see that the left is right, and the right is wrong, and now I finally understand that I must move left in order to be right!
Therefore, from this day foreword, I too will enthusiastically support with great vigor the rightness of senator John McCain, and in his spirit of "By Partisanship", it is only fitting that I follow his example and try reaching across the isles myself, by supporting America's first Black Presidential candidate, and genuine leftist, Barack Obama!
I know it's a bold step, but someone has to take it! He is gonna win you know.
Well said!
McCain is almost a Messiah himself, what with how he utterly convinces some that day is night and up is down.
Yes indeed he is! But seeing as to how he agrees with so much of what the illustrious left considers "Progressive", I see him as pointing to the "True" political messiah of our time, Barack!
Yeah!... Let us praise him with song and dance: and not to mention, the opening our wallets and filling the federal tax coffers until there's no more to give!
Shared misery for all!
Oh what a beautiful world this will be!
I.G.Y.
Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream's in sight
You've got to admit it
At this point in time that it's clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we'll be A.O.K.
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free
Get your ticket to that wheel in space
While there's time
The fix is in
You'll be a witness to that game of chance in the sky
You know we've got to win
Here at home we'll play in the city
Powered by the sun
Perfect weather for a streamlined world
There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure time for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free ....
