The robbers went into the place where Callahan gets his coffee every morning.

The waitress put too much sugar into the coffee...Then Callahan came back to the diner. He then see the robbers in action...

Little Bill: “I don’t deserve this.”
Munny: “Deserve’s got nothing to do with it”.
Blam.

Internet Movie Database:

The title role was originally intended for Frank Sinatra who had to pull out because of a hand injury. It was then offered to John Wayne who declined the role and later said he refused it because he ‘didn’t want Sinatra’s leftovers’. The script then passed to Paul Newman, who also turned it down but said it would be a perfect vehicle for Clint Eastwood.

Look who Leone asked first. Major stars. That meant Eastwood was being considered in some pretty good company.

I understand. But there were more than a few actors in Hollywood Leone could have picked form. Why did Leone choose Eastwood and not another one of the comglomeration of Tinselstown oater veterans? He saw star potential in Eastwood. And he was right.

Remi Santoni, who played Harry’s partner in the first movie, was much better as Poppi on Seinfeld, IMHO.
