Construction Slump Hurts Hispanic Immigrants First Time In 5 Years Foreign-Born Hispanics Have Higher Unemployment Rate
POSTED: 6:27 pm EDT June 4, 2008 WASHINGTON -- The construction industry slump has led to an increase in the unemployment rate among Hispanic immigrants.
A Pew Hispanic Center analysis of census and Labor Department data has found that, for the first time in five years, foreign-born Hispanics have a higher unemployment rate than Hispanics born in the U.S. The unemployment rate for Hispanic immigrants in the first months of this year is 7.5 percent compared with 6.9 percent among native-born Hispanics.
