Since that posting I was directed to the warrant and affidavit for Jeffs' arrest in the Utah case. The language of describing being an accomplice to a crime uses words like "solicited, encouraged, commanded,", etc. (I can't find my own posting on this.)
Officiating at a marriage ceremony is no doubt sufficient connection to the subsequent sexual assault which was an expected direct consequence of the marriage. But even if Jeffs "ordered" somebody else to officiate, his role in dictating specifically who shall marry whom would still meet the legal criteria, I think.
