OBAMA-PFLEGER TIE RUNS DEEP [Catholic League weighs in on Fr. Pfleger]

OBAMA-PFLEGER TIE RUNS DEEP

May 30, 2008

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on Rev. Michael Pfleger’s remarks at Sen. Barack Obama’s church that led the Catholic priest to apologize and the Democratic hopeful to renounce them:

“Most commentators are already focusing on the inappropriateness of the race-baiting comments by Father Pfleger. More serious is the venue in which he delivered his diatribe and his long-standing ties to Sen. Obama.

“Father Pfleger’s tirade would be inexcusable anywhere, but it is even more offensive when it happens in a church. It does not matter that it was not his own, nor does it matter that it happened in a church that has a record of allowing demagogues to exploit it. When churches become forums for political rallies, both religion and the First Amendment are corrupted.

“Obama and Pfleger are no strangers. Indeed, when Obama was in the state senate in Illinois, he conveniently arranged for Father Pfleger’s St. Sabina’s Church to receive state monies for its social programs. Of course, the guardians of church and state separation said nothing then and they are saying nothing now. That’s because they’re all in the tank for Obama. Just as important, why is it that of all the wonderful Catholic priests in the Chicago Archdiocese, Obama long ago chose Pfleger to hang with? Truth be known, Pfleger has a very troubling history: he has welcomed the anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan to preach in his church; he has hired prostitutes to worship there; he has been arrested for defacing billboards; and he once urged the crowd at an anti-gun rally to hunt down a gun store owner ‘like a rat’ and ‘snuff’ him.

“Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together. Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin.”

Firing, known as dismissal from the clerical state in Canon Law, a priest is like firing a teacher with tenure.

Isn't removing him from his position at the local Church simply an administrative action, that's been advocated before. In fact I believe he was once "transferred", but retained in his current position due to his local popularity. He's been very controversial in Chicago, as have many of Obama's cronies. Now they're getting national exposure, and it's not as friendly.

What about when entertainment concerts become podiums for political rallies?

At least you don’t have to pay $50 to go to a church service.

Father Pfleger's Support for Farrakhan

Ed Lasky

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/05/father_pflegers_support_for_fa.html

When the Illinois Hate Commission was found to have on its board. a Nation of Islam member- Sister Claudette Marie Muhammed who proudly stood up for Louis Farrakhan, the notoriously anti-white and anti-Semitic Minister (or as Barack Obama refers to him using the honorific "Minister Farrkhan," a controversy erupted. She refused to denounce his racist and anti-Semitic remarks, and refused to resign.

The Board's three Jewish members resigned in protest. Father Michael Pfleger not only supported the Sister's refusal to condemn Farrakhan's racism, he said this of the resignation of the Jewish members of the board, "Good Riddance."

With his latest, belittling rant against Hillary Clinton, Pfleger may also be a misogynist , as well.   Obama's has identified Father Pfleger as on of his three spiritual mentors. The other two, Pastor Jeremaih Wright-much commented upon- and the Reverend James Meeks, who has his own trail of controversy (among which includes a dislike of gays) , Meeks has also been a beneficiary of campaign contributions from indicted Obama pal, Anthony Rezko.

No wonder Barack Obam has not problem with the prospect of going on a "Great Haters of America" tour of the world. He appears to have no problem empathizing with their views of America-or Israel for that matter.   Much more about Pfleger by David Kopel at Volokh Conspiracy  and our own Rosslyn Smith.

Yes, he is. Pfleger made some thinly-veiled death threats to a gun shop owner when he and jesse were demonstrating in front of his business. Apparently his church superiors are scared to do anything about him.

He looks a bit like a thinner Al Gore in profile. Pfleger, not Farrakhan.

Let’s remind everyone that Pfleger backed up Farrakhan in a 2006 controversy over some remarkable Farrakhan bile. Pfleger criticized a mass resignation of Jewish members on a state of Illinois hate crimes commission: NBC 5, Chicago

Pfleger said “good riddance” to the people who had left the commission. “Leave, go ahead and go on out, we don’t need that kind of a spirit or mentality and a narrowness on that kind of commission. I’m glad they’re gone,” Pfleger said.

What was the issue? A member of the commission, Sister Claudette Marie Muhammad, was the Nation of Islam’s minister of protocol.

[She] “was under the radar until she invited other commissioners to attend a Farrakhan speech last month. Criticism of Muhammad mounted after the speech, which included references to “Hollywood Jews” promoting homosexuality and “other filth.”

The three Jewish commission members who resigned wanted Muhammad to repudiate Farrakhan’s criticism of Jews, gays and other groups. The Jewish Community Relations Council, representing 46 Chicago-area groups, passed a resolution supporting the three commission members.

Here’s the quote from Farrakhan that Pfleger implicitly supported.

Farrakhan said, “These false Jews promote the filth of Hollywood. It’s the wicked Jews, the false Jews that are promoting lesbianism, homosexuality,” and “Zionists have manipulated Bush and the American government” over the war in Iraq.

Right. The Archdiocese can have him transferred.

A transfer to a very rural all-white community that has been without a priest for the last twenty years or so sounds perfect for Pfleger. He’ll have lots of work to do, such as tending to the spiritual needs of a community with whose culture he’ll have to reorient himself.

Yep, he’ll have to go back to doing what he was trained to do; be a priest.

Pfleger claims that "the greatist sin is racism".Pfleger claims that "the greatist sin is racism".

He also claims that the greatest sin against God is the United States. He has too many "greatest sins."

“Most commentators are already focusing on the inappropriateness of the race-baiting comments by Father Pfleger. More serious is the venue in which he delivered his diatribe and his long-standing ties to Sen. Obama.

Obama’s association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger may have an unexpected positive effect on the nation.

The round the clock TV exposure of Wright’s and Pfleger’s racist rhetoric is exposing for all the country to see the African-American racism that has been covered up and ignored for far too long.

This open running sore has finally been exposed to the disinfectant of the news spotlight.

Perhaps Obama’s candidacy will really have a healing effect. A different one and an unintended one than the one Obama’s supporters purport his presidency would engender.

Rush is right IMHO...Pfleger is obama’s “token” white guy to - as is usual - get his ass out of trouble.
