Reporting from KTVQ in Billings
Chelsea Clinton told supporters in Billings that the country needs to do more with gun control laws, during the final visit on her two day tour campaigning on her mother's behalf in the Magic City.
During a question and answer session before seniors and other supporters at the Yellowstone County Council on Aging Office Friday morning, Chelsea said, "We also need to do more with gun control. And my mom supports- naturally what she supported in New York. Which is: we have different gun control laws in New York City than we do in upstate New York."
The younger Clinton made her remarks in a response to a question from Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy (D), who asked her what efforts could be made to get more cops on the street.
Kennedy introduced Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton before her speech in Billings on Tuesday night, where he said that Senator Clinton would protect Montanans Second Amendment rights.
The former First Daughter as standard practice does not do interviews with the media, so the News Station's Aaron Flint was unable to ask Chelsea Clinton a follow up question regarding the remarks.
Clinton spoke to the Council on Aging, taking questions for nearly an hour about her mother's position on the issues, addressing Social Security, Medicare, and education.
She touted her mother's support for universal health coverage, a position none of the other presidential candidates hold.
Clinton did not mention Barack Obama or Republican candidate John McCain during the remarks, but she did throw out several critiques of the Bush Administration for what she describes as "a lack of fiscal responsibility".
Hillary Clinton's challenger, Barack Obama, has also come under attack by Montana Republican Party Chairman Erik Iverson recently, who says Obama voted to ban shotguns for use during hunting.
Montanans will have their final say in the primary election on Tuesday, June 3rd.

Here is the full remark that was made on the topic of gun control
Chelsea Clinton: "We also need to do more with gun control. And my mom supports- naturally what she supported in New York. Which is: we have different gun control laws in New York City than we do in upstate New York. I think a lot of people think of New York City as just being New York, but actually the majority of New York State, not only land mass wise, but also people wise, lives outside New York City- and we have very different gun control laws in New York City as what we do in upstate New York."

Chelsea Clinton campaigned for the first time on Thursday in Billings, but she told a crowd that she's no stranger to the Big Sky state.
Chelsea talked with Montana-Wyoming tribal leaders, visited the YWCA, the Clinton campaign headquarters, and then ended the day at the Montana Brewing Company.
Chelsea Clinton has some ties to Montana as she worked on a cattle ranch near Grass Range while she was in college.
She says that Hillary Clinton is the strongest candidate for the Democrats, and the best for President. Chelsea also told supporters and others at the Montana Brewing Company she's proud to campaign for her mother.
She started the event with a short presentation and took a few questions, but she answered most of the queries by visiting people at their tables.
Chelsea talked about her mother's "prevention first" legislation to decrease teen pregnancy.
"Mandate funding those programs we know work, ensuring that honest age appropriate sexual education is back in our schools and on the national institutes of health web site and on other government health web sites, but she hasn't even been able to get that through a Democratic Congress."
Chelsea Clinton will visit the Yellowstone County Council on Aging at its new office in Westpark Plaza beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Following the visit she heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

(from May 29, 2008)
Montana's June 3rd primary is less than a week away and the candidates are hitting the Treasure state hard.
Chelsea Clinton made her first visit to Big Sky Country to campaign for her mother Hillary.
Chelsea is making several stops in Billings on Thursday and Friday. She has visited 39 states while campaigning for her mother.
At Chelsea's first stop in Billings she talked with Montana-Wyoming Tribal leaders and then it was off to the YWCA.
Chelsea wanted to visit the YWCA because her mother came here in the early to mid 1990's. She looked at child care and even read the book "Giraffe's Can't dance."
The Senator's campaign staff says the children's issues are important to Mrs. Clinton.
She talked with the Y's staff about all programs for children and families.
After the Y, Chelsea visited the Clinton Campaign headquarters to talk with volunteers. At a stop in the Montana Brewing Company, she will talk to young professionals.
Friday, Chelsea will meet with members of the Yellowstone County Council on Aging starting at 9:00.
My thoughts exactly!
Sadly, most of the gun control laws in NY are unconstitutional, but still enforced by the oath-breaking judges.
I've wondered the same thing...this girl is living La Vida Loca... |
My gut feeling is just the opposite. McCain has limited appeal to conservatives so he may be dogged by 3rd party candidates in some states. At best, conservatives will vote for McCain but not work hard for him. The country seems open to the rats message of huge government. The majority will vote for the party that promises more services from the public treasury. Collectively through the party and affiliates, the rats have an overwhelming advantage in resources. Independents often side for the most engaging person. Obama is far more engaging than McCain.
I have not decided if I will vote for McCain. I prefer his policies on defense, taxes, and spending. Even in these areas, he has some odd positions such as on Gitmo. I am not sure he can be trusted on taxes. His actions speak louder than his recent words. On immigration, environment, and energy policy, he is only marginally better Obama. It may be preferrable to have rat responsible for these terrible policies.
I have no idea. Apparently she’s saying NYC people are too stupid/criminal to own guns. She may have a point there.
And exactly what idiots care about what Chelsea Clinton thinks? This world has gone completely mad if this sniveling offspring is taken with any seriousness......
Doesn’t concern me. She’s not in Hitlery’s inner circle and it’s 50/50 that her mom will even win the Dumocrap nomination.
I really, really, really want these libs to pass a massive anti-gun law, repealing the 2nd amendment just to hasten the 2nd Civil War., then we’ll have some fun.
So let me get this clear....
Hitlery junior went to Montana and cheered on gun control?
And she went to college where? Stanford???
It amazes me that they don’t teach English or speech at Stanford. Wow, that sentence structure really leaves a lot to be desired.
As long as blacks are forbidden, she’s okay with it.
Does Chelsea even know what a “gun” is?
I would give Chelsea a pass. She has done a lot with her looks. She is more attractive than her mom was at the same age, and probably much less of a leftie, too. She is going to support her mother’s positions, so that is not surprising.
However, she may get taken to the woodshed about knowing her audience. Even though she seems to be hinting at local option (a defensible position on the 2A if the Supreme Court should hold that it is not applicable to the States) I doubt this position plays well in Billings.
Hey Chel...save that stuff for the gay bar stump circuit.
Is that a photo of Chelsea taking lessons from Monica?
Now, now, remember Princess Chelsea is speaking to the generation reared on whole language instruction and “fuzzy math.”
Gun control. Right. It works so well in Chicago and Mexico. No gun violence there./sarc
