Our tariff rates don’t need to be at zero. A five to ten percent tariff on all the worthless knicknacks from China would bring in a lot of revenue.
As tariff rates have gone down, income taxes have gone up. Indirect taxes are always preferable to direct taxes.

several years ago when “free Trade” was a new topic here on FR ..I did research on Tariff rates on US goods vs US Tariff rates guess what :
Average world Tariff on US made goods 20%+ -average US tariffs on world goods 3.2%.
The Free Traders here on FR could not reply to the data other then to say the GOAL was free Trade and US had to set the example for the World..sounds much like todays Global warming explanation, No?
THERE IS NO FREE TRADE IF YOU MAKE THINGS IN AMERICA. and the Washington elites both Dem and GOP think thats fine.
