Ribbons

On this solemn day I remember my friends who have perished over the years for the defense of freedom. When my children ask if I was a hero, I echo the words of my grandfather by saying to them "I wasn't a hero. My friends who died overseas were the heroes."

Once To Every Man And Nation

Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side;
Some great cause, some great decision, offering each the bloom or blight,
And the choice goes by forever, ‘twixt that darkness and that light

Must see: extraordinary Memorial Day tribute video to our brave veterans ... from every war ~~ Once To Every Man And Nation

GOD BLESS THE USA

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

She was an intel officer back in england feeding intel to the flying tigers

She was a wonderful chef, natural comedian, and I bet a tough old bird. We all miss her, her food, and especially her voice.

Dan Aykroyd had her part down to the tee......

A lot of folks poked fun at her over the years!

She was really a giant of sorts. She did have a wonderful sense of humor, and I believe she led a very fulfilling life.

One of my favorite shows that she did was just prior to her death when she did a show on Hamburgers.

The Queen of french cooking doing lowly hamburgers L0L and she was serious!

Memorial Day

  Hopewell, New Jersey, May 2005

It was enough to make us weep,
half a dozen veterans of the last great war
looking like fading away,
followed by the high school band,
booming bravely into adulthood.
Next a squad in Civil War uniform,
harking back to the source of the holiday,
a fratricide that seems today
almost as if it occurred in another country,
not just another century.
Then making up in creativity
what our town lacks in size
a retired Humvee
with a small girl in back
wearing a grunt style cap
and waving mechanically;
vintage cars,
big ones from a century ago
with wooden spokes
and other vestiges of their carriage genes,
still boxy ones from the 20s,
the streamlined 30s,
the fishtailed 50s,
a couple of Mustangs, an early Corvette;
then the fire engines, big and bigger,
like armor-plated rhinos,
our town’s brigade riding old fashioned red,
others yellow,
sage green from a well-heeled nearby town;
delegations of Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies,
one scout troop with a five-piece band
trying like twenty-five;
a motorcycle club,
plenty of paunch and gray hair,
and, though some ponytails,
suburban angels rather than Hell’s.
Finally a platoon of kids
all safely helmeted,
one tireless on a pogo stick
others on scooters and bikes
and even a few on tricycles,
training for future wars.

Richard Greene

Memorial day is an odd thing. Its bitter sweet.
Its bitter in loss and sweet in remembrance.

It is a quiet day here on FR and that says a lot.

As I said, Memorial Day is an odd thing

Oh! Sweet America

  Next to the Lord I love that land
The land of liberty, the jewel of pilgrim's pride.

A land; where George Washington fought,
A land; where Abraham Lincoln taught
Liberty, Justice, and Equality

A glorious heaven,
Where Japanese maples grow
A land, where Irish roses blow

A land; where lillies from Africa smile
A land of democracy, a beauty without a spot

Let the glory fill the sky, let thy freedom sing with joy
Let every child happily cry, Oh! sweet America.

Lord, ruler of America's mind,
Before thy throne we bow our humble head;
Bless America with thy infinite grace,

Let this nation be the medium of thy mercy;
Let this country be an instrument of thy wisdom.

In war and in peace let thy mercy serve thy will
Let thy might serve for justice, Equality, and Liberty.

From the cliffs of the Rockies the lightning's thunder;
From the banks of the Mississippi trees and birds twitter.

From the shores of Florida to the mountains of Alaska
Boys and girls are singing "Victory! Victory! to Thee!

Vishnu P. Joshi
