It doesn't make her example irrelevant because her point was not that campaigning through June is the norm. Her point was about what is possible. It is possible for the frontrunner in late May to end up not the candidate in November. That being the point, it would have been legit if her example went back 140 years or more, rather than just 40 years. What is possible? Not what is average.

Once again people are going round and round being outraged over a statement that EVERYONE knows she didn't mean the way they are taking it. It's ridiculous to me.

No, then she wouldn't have said "I don't understand it", as if it were the norm. Her take was that she was totally perplexed as if it were common. If so, why would she have to dig back forty years to find an example?

The comparison is completely faulty; in 1968, the primaries didn’t START in December or January, but much, much later. So It wasn’t unusual for big states to be decided later than now. This Democratic primary has gone on much, much longer than any in recent history, and the reference to a tragedy cutting it short IS a very revealing slip of her tongue that should disqualify her from the Presidency.

I am inclined to agree with you. As many have already pointed out, however, her personality and frequent bouts of faulty memory certainly qualify her for all of the suspicion directed at her. IMHO, the real story here is the eagerness of a major faction of Rats to dump all over her. Her crackup is, for me, bitter sweet as I had hoped to see her run against the Pub in Nov.. Sooner or later, her arrogant, grasping nature was bound to bring her down.
