A couple of points:

1. Try driving from Dallas to El Paso at 55 mph. Once you get out of the Metroplex there is virtually nothing for 600 miles.

2. This will rile the average citizen as much, if not more, than "comprehensive immigration reform".

Most every congresscritter, save for those in the liberal Northeast, will be committing career suicide by advocating the double nickel.

I drive a big truck, and all my speeders (yep, got a couple of 'em ..) were in relatively open road (I consider traffic spread every 10 or 20 car lengths as open) doing 65 or 70 in a (IMO wrongly marked) 55 zone.

All the 4 wheelers are doin' 65/70 and us big trucks get pulled over for doing the same.

Any driver knows this one.

"Prevailing flow of traffic" isn't a viable defense. 90% of the time you can plead it down to an "improper equipment" or "seat belt" charge for a reduced fine and no points ... but there is the occasional Dudley Do-Right that doesn't budge (The court always asks if the officer will agree to __________ ).

Time is taken out of a man's day to appear in an oft-times far away court and etc., etc.

No unsafe driving, no accidents .. just speeders ... sigh.

Revenue enhancement, indeed.
